Snosuit Nation/Rainy Lake

As the entire state of Minnesota seemingly enjoys this beautiful weather I’ve frankly been a bit at odds with this July in October system here in “Manland”. I’ve been wearing my Snosuit sweatshirt and cap leaving the bibs and jacket at camp waiting for cooler temps to arrive. Fortunately the Big Rainy Lake Walleyes have been cooperating despite warmer water than we normally experience heading into the middle of October.

Walleyes continue to snap jigs and minnows with an angry attitude. Locations of the roaming cisco pods continues to be critical to an anglers success. Yesterday we found our best fishing on a wind blown rock wall. Top ledge of the wall was a mere 8-10 feet of scattered boulders while the bottom edge was 30 feet with a quick taper into 65 f.o.w.. The typical walleye ledge or shelf was simply non-existant here in this case. Still do not argue with huge schools of cisco dominating a piece of structure with huge red hooks roaming freely. This literally was a Humminbird commercial. These fish nearly took the rod out of your hand at strike. For 3 consecutive days now we’ve landed 25 walleyes over 21 inches. Big fat walleyes continue to dominate the catch for the day. Yesterday our fish averaged a heavy 23 inches. At one point I personally landed fish over 23 inches on 4 consecutive casts before only to stop as I got customers into the precise funnel that continued to produce big Walleyes.

Aaaaah Fall fishing on Rainy Lake Baby!! Doesn’t get any better. Big fish yesterday went 25 1/2 inches. Not the 30 we aimed for, but averaging a hefty 23 inches a walleyes was ok with the Daze Camp.

BTW…..Rick you MIGHT have had some action based on the quick analysis of your minnow.
