OK…..You might not have made it here in 2011, but DO NOT MISS NEXT YEARS FALL RUN!! There is something magical about our fall “Guys” fishing groups. To answer a common inquiry online; “When is too early to book fall trips for 2012?” Reply NEVER. “When is too late…..When your chosen dates are taken”. I love getting after it with the Rainydaze crew “BOYS OF FALL”. As anglers we all know “FALL” is one of the key periods in which the biggest and baddest Walleyes become most vulnerable to hook and line. I’d say for me it is December/January first and foremost then Fall followed by Spring for Big Rainy lake Walleyes. Still being real during the rapid water temperature changes of October walleyes begin to concentrate in tight schools in very close proximity to the dominate forage fish in the particular system in reference. They look to eat bigger bait and work less for a meal. The last few days have been mentally draining from a guides perspective, yet world class walleye fishing for our customers. Nobody demands more from our services than the Captain. Guiding Frankly is easy when your working “Milk Runs”. Unfortunately we’ve worked different schools of fish each day is seems lately. I assure you I am carefully logging both success and failure again this year to further fine tune this pattern. To put this into perspective I never want anglers to get any false impression that you simply drive out anywhere huck your anchor out and start netting big walleyes. We all know that is foolish fantasy land fishing adventures. We all know fishing is seldom that easy, and it is tends to be a bit more difficult in a large 227,000 acre fishery when these fish congregate in numbers. Yes the fish become concentrated, but this also means much more “Dead Water” to sift throught. Too often yesterday’s “Honey Hole” will leave only the “Bees” (Fisherman) the next. With that being said when the main forage movement is located the fish will most always be nearby or ON this same migration. Yesterday again was a prime example of blue collar…….working the program. We BURNED……I mean BURNED through locations that have held big walleyes for me recently only to find mediocre results for the first couple hours of the trip. One or two fish and then smaller saugers left me scratching my head and quickly pulling the plug…….. I am quite certain on probably my 8th move some of our customers might have been ok just waiting them out. Still one of our customers said “We’ve got faith in ya Chris!! I heard him say HE WILL FIND THEM. We can reel in a hundred times if needed Chris!!” That was nice to hear. Well 2 or 3 moves later we located the bait fish and immediately located the big walleyes. We fished them HARD and smacked them right in that boney jaw. When we tired them out We duplicated this structure mix only 1/4 mile away and handed out yet another BIG FISH BEATDOWN. I declared “REDEMPTION” as we kicked these big fall footballs. I’d estimate another 25 walleyes over 20 inches with the fish averaging a HEAVY 22-24 inches with the biggest taping 27 on the nose. YES that 30 is there….We’ll get her!!

We’re fishing what I would determine as a resting location for these bigger walleyes in Deep water. 35-45 feet of water. Boat control is critical to catching these fish. We’re using the biggest bait we can get our hands on. H20 Precision jigs in the 3/16 oz. size. Take the Jig and stick the hook in the mouth and out the top of the head. If you hook your bigger minnows through the mouth first rather than through the bottom of the mouth and up through the head you’ll have more barb exposed helping hook-ups. Blue or purple represent a nice color combo when fishing ciscoe chasing walleyes. You’ll know they are Ciscoe chasing walleyes when most of the fish have that heavy girth.

The fish seem to be holding on deep mud mixed with rock rubble. Current or wind direction seems to be a non-factor.

Really want to congratulate Rich, Luke, Bob an Steve on all of their big walleyes. Many doubles and even triples. I will admit “Eaters” have been much more difficult for us to come by. We ended up with only 6 yesterday. So if your looking for small walleyes……….Might want to go elsewhere right now……..We’re on BIG GIRLS!!

I actually prefer the “little dang it”, but we know the hook up percentage with that one Can’t wait to get back up Chris, maybe I’ll stock up on some of the bfish purple power jigs, I saw a few fish caught with them too
