A sure sign my 2011 open water season nearing the end is the passing of our annual “Wood4Walleye” weekend. A weekend packed with cutting and stacking our homes supply of wood and chasing Rainy Lake Walleyes with good friends. This year once again I believe we further perfected the system to gather more fishing time and less wood cutting. All 12 cords of Ash were cut, hauled up our mountain and stacked at the “Daze Camp” in mere 8 hours flat. There was little doubt the boys had fishing on their minds and the girls had horses and relaxation on theirs.

Newcomer TJ got in the mix this year (Andy’s Wife) and a Special shout out to here for all of her help!!

To my daughter Lindsey (not pictured), Wife Cheryl, Mike, Andy, Bruce, Tucker and TJ a huge THANK YOU!! A month of work taken care of in 8 hours has been such a huge help for us. Once again none of us will be messing around with firewood this fall and winter when we should be chasing grouse or jerking huge walleyes through the ice!!

Also thanks to the boys for helping me organize our new permanent fish houses for easy access this December. Those satelite houses will be looking pretty darn nice this winter!!

**Note the Pine Marten that decided he needed to survey the newly found wood pile!! Just prior to that I was watching a full size doe when she kept cupping her ears forward. I though maybe she was hearing some boaters talking on the lake when at once I see the Pine marten come scooting up our driveway. Oh sure they look cuddly….I wouldn’t recommend petting them.

    Oh BTW…….BIG WALLEYES WERE ON!!

I was going to save a cord or two for your trip Mom, but figured you’d be too busy staining the top peak of the house.

Yes. Great friends. We are very fortunate to have such good friends and good times here on the lake. Only casualty of the weekend was the back window of the truck. Yours truly was a bit over zealous in log throwing. Funny thing was of course it isn’t fixed yet, so when I got bait this morning I was in a wood chip funnel as all the wood chips and saw dust sucked into the truck. BTW opening your drivers side window does NOT minimize the efffect…….In fact just the contrary.

YES!! We don’t really need to split anything unless it won’t fit through our boiler door. We do split some for our fireplace, but frankly the fireplace heat is a bit of a joke compared to the inferno we have lit from November through April.

Thanks!! It always feels good to have the BTU’s stacked high and wide prior to the first snowflakes touching down. Fall is now truly left to chasing feathered friends and Deer along with of course pig walleyes. Winter is busy enough and easy access dry wood makes life a bit easier here in “Manland”. Can’t wait for the ice fishing season!!

A guy works so hard to build it he becomes very protective of it. Don’t even want to burn it now….Just look at it. Yes now we’ll have another 12 cords come in on a semi truck for next years burning. At peak we’ll have close to 30 cords of wood at the “Daze Wood Elimination” Camp.
