Marcum Ice advantage

For several years Ice fisherman have come to rely on the “Marcum Advantage”. Ice anglers for years have been urged by many to try it for yourself. Seeing is most always….Believing which will always hold more water than any industry hype. There is nothing more critical to ou personal guide service than having customers CATCH ELITE CALIBER FISH. Frankly I have little interest working with anything less than the best equipment that affords our customers the competitive edge that is often needed to consistenly land big fish. Here on Rainy Lake our Guide Service has come to rely on Marcum technology to provide our anglers with further knowledge of what’s taking place under the ice sheet. Last year we ran another 62 guided ice fishing trips fishing with over 300 different fisherman as we chased Walleyes, Pike and Crappies. If I were to poll our customer’s as to what single piece of equipment helped put fish on the ice I believe 9 out of 10 answers would point to the advancements within the world of Ice fishing sonar. Still beyond the seldom questioned “Advancements” within the world of sonar is the overall “Knowledge” of how to utilize this to our advantage. A guy can only learn so much in a retail setting. Droppin the Puck is where the face-off between angler and fish truly takes center stage. Over the years we’ve witnessed the average angler quickly become more efficient at not only breaking down a piece of structure, but landing fish by triggering them into a strike. Gone are the days of wondering what is taking place underwater for 99% of ice fisherman. Personally I’ve been afforded far too much time simply staring down my own personal Marcum flashrs. I’d suggest I see “Red” more than my teenage daugher text’s her friends on a daily basis starting in December each year. Over the last few years I’ve been known to be very guarded when it comes to my Marcum LX-5. I have guarded my Red case with my life knowing full well the finely tuned detail and speed in which the data has been transferred to my dial allows me a distinct advantage when it comes to landing fish. Some would suggest I have a bit of a competitive side to me when it comes to ice fishing!! We believe our customers often hold a distinct advantage when it comes to triggering otherwise nuetral fish to eat utilizing the powerful Marcum flasher. Now with the introduction of Marcum’s all new LX-7 I’ll boldly predict anglers will soon point to this years advancements as yet another game changing face lift within the ice fishing industry we’ll all too soon simply come to expect in our flasher. Like every other “Ice Head” I am left to patiently await the inital “Puck Drop” of this new product line. Still upon my initial review; This appears to have once again raised the bar within the world of Ice fishing Sonar!!

Here’s a quick re-cap of a fun “REAL LIFE” Big fish encounter with Skeeter Boats Dave Marquart last December on one of our guided trips. Dave was fishing with his father in-law inside one of our Otter Portable house’s close by. I was outside listening to the two of them discuss what they were seeing on their Marcum Flashers just like a couple kids!! This I assure you is fun in itself as anglers breakdown what is happening under the sheet based on what their Marcum is telling them. I qoute “He’s there!! He keeps following me, but be just WON’T hit it!!” “Chris we’ve got a big fish that we can’t get to bite!!”

I came into the house to witness a massive red mark following their jigging spoons up and down the water column. Dave handed me his jig stick and said “See if you can get him to bite. I quickly began playing “Ice fishing Keep Away” not allowing this fish to close in on the lightning spoon. Everyone in life wants something they can’t have, and fish are no different. The fish went from nuetral to displaying a moderate interest. I never once allowed the fish to close in on the spoon knowing full well that IF she really wanted the bait….She’d catch up with it. We “Cat and Moused” literally inches from the nose of this big walleye. After 30 seconds of careful working the spoon with the aid of our Marcum LX5 this fish became far more interested in something it simply couldn’t seem to capture. THEN at once we’d kept the interest of that walleye long enough to create “Advantage Angler”!! We’d been granted the gift of competition!! There is nothing better that can take place than a little friendly competition boys!! I watched another massive red mark race into the cone of our LX5. I quickly handed Dave his jig stick back yelling “SOMETHING IS GOING TO HAPPEN DAVE!!”. Seconds later Dave dropped the hammer to a heavy fish. Minutes later this massive 28 inch Rainy Lake walleye was posing for pics before being released!!

Real life stories of real life results!! The fine detail pinpointing the whereabouts of not only our initial target fish, but our personal presentations led to the outsmarting of a big ole Rainy lake Walleye that day!! Thanks Marcum! YOU ARE THE SECRET WEAPON!!

Great reading there and I don’t want to get booted from the site but come on, guys using Marcum are not catching more fish than vex users purely on what brand they choose, and this is from a guy running an LX-5.

LOL!! Can’t get kicked off a site for your opinion. Thank goodness or I would have been gone years ago!! Stop and see me at this years ice fishing show if you happen to make it. I’d be more than happy to talk with you in great detail. You never know………POSSIBLY just POSSIBLY I can shed some light on something you might not know about the world of flashers. Frankly…….Yes there is a difference between ice sonar.

Far to early in the year for a Vex vs. Marcum thread anyway!! I at least need to winterize the boat first. Still stay tuned if your new to the debate; As November roles around there surely will be another raising of the gloves between Red and Blue. I’ll need to rest up prior that that annual debate.

Again as we say every single year; Each angler is stongly advised to try out the flashers for themselves. As a pro staff member with Marcum Technology I’ll focus my attention on the details within Marcum’s product line up that I deem important on fishing outings for anglers. As a full-time licensed fishing guide I have a rather unique perspective as it pertains to flashers. I frankly don’t no a single person that gets a chance to see as many flashers in action as I do. Many of our customers own Vex and Humminbird as well as Marcum. Frankly it makes ZERO difference to me what they own. With that being said without question nearly every angler wants to see my Marcum LX5. Does it make a difference?? I’ll say YES without any question in different fishing situations your flasher choice can make a difference when it comes to marking fish. I’m not sure if I’ve fished with a single customer that didn’t have a preference for one brand or another. I’ve had customers abandon their pride and joy hours into the trip out of total frustration as well. There is without a question many notable differences anglers whom have used different models even within the same company will attest to. Still I prefer to let each fisherman be their own judge as to what best fits their needs. In doing so anglers need to be presented the facts and then drop the puck themeselves. I’d prefer each angler has had experience with other flasher units as well. With all this being said it is Marcum’s LX-7 that is going to receive a massive amount of attention this year with all the bells and whistles included in one single flasher. Many Ice heads will definately want to kick the tires on this GEM!! I too have ran Marcum’s LX5 for the last couple years (LOVE IT), and felt this flasher dominated the marketplace on many levels. My friends have ZERO affiliation with Marcum Technology, yet all run Marcum flashers. I assure you we are all very excited about the new options on this LX7!! just the big screen alone is a BIG deal to me!! Heck I wouldn’t DREAM of trading my 10 inch Humminbird 1198C at dash on my Skeeter going back to a 5-7 inch screen……..NO CHANCE!! Ask anyone that has a 10 inch graph at dash and ask if they want to trade for a smaller version?? I’ll bet you’ll have a tough time finding anyone. The large screen alone is very easy on the eyes. With that being said there so many more options at an anglers fingertips with this flasher guys are definatley going to want to look this over closely. There are several notable differences when marking multiple fish along with your presentation between flasher units within the marketplace as there clearly is in the open water arena. Ask any retailer of your choice if they think each open water unit is the same or if there are advantages between units?? IF so….there would be little sense in buying one for $3000 versus $150.00 huh? Each angler can decide which best helps him on the ice. Last year we were fishing Giant slabs in 45+ of water late in the season. Don’t think a flasher makes a difference?? I assure you there isn’t a customer of mine that wouldn’t strongly disagree with you there. AGAIN……This of course is by no means limited to Marcum Technologies and Vexilar. In fact this has nothing to do with Vex or Hbird. This is simply letting anglers know Marcum Technology has something extremely special that YES will help anglers again understand more in the underwater world!!

Upon further thought considering your opinion. A couple years ago we were fishing Crappies in the late March timeframe. We run 30-35 guided crappie trips each winter. For about a 2 week period our Crappies were suspended over 40-45 feet of water and these fish were consistently cruising at 10-15 feet off the bottom. Per my Marcum LX-5 I was able to adjust my zoom to key in directly on this area within the water column. I had 2 good friends fishing along with us that day who were simply disgusted at to their inability to fish those finicky slabs within the critical zoomed screen. They both were at a serious disadvantage though we all sat shouder to shoulder on the same massive school of crappies. Both of these guys are very accomplished ice anglers. Still if either of these guys catch this thread I bet they will gladly attest that the sonar of choice made not only some difference in fish being caught, but a DRASTIC difference. You out there Andy!! Or are ya still licking your wounds from that beatdown!

BTW Andy and Mike both……NOW…….Run Marcum flashers. I assure you not to simply be cool.

Ah I’ m waiting till a little closer to ice time to enter into the red versus blue debate, but I will say 2 points. First as stated I have no affilation with any product. Second we ran a Marcum and a vex last year. T-man has a FL-18 for sale that has been spoken for by a person who wants to get into ice fishing more. No room on the ice fishing shelf anymore now that he has a new LX-5 sitting in its spot.
