This has been a fantastic “Growth” year for Rainy lake fish. Last year there were some rumblings of a possible lack of forage for our larger fish. I never really saw this to be fact in the areas we fished. Still Rainy lake is a very large fishery and shifting of ciscoe holding areas could have been the case. This year the obvious abundance of ciscoes on the graph has really fattened up our long Walleyes. Again yesterday we boated roughly 50 walleyes and many of these fish were heavier than one typically would expect a “Borderland Walleye to be. Back in the day those Big up north Walleyes were normally big headed fish that skinnied down to the tail section with an occasssional freak of nature with “Shoulders”. This season most all big fish have been “Eatin Good in the Neighborhood”. Here’s another very thick walleye caught and released from yesterdays guide trip. Anglers can EXPECT to see some real bruisers this fall. Remember come fall these walleyes that have been feeding exclusively on open basin ciscoes migrate into areas where they become vulnerable to hook and line. This is undoubatably the main reason anglers bust up PB’s in the fall. Ciscoes move out of that DEEP water into slighlty shallower shoals. This movement is CRITICAL to an anglers success when targeting big fish. I predict some of the best big walleye fishing (Weather cooperating” that we’ve seen for a long time. This is saying something considering the normal big slabber and eyes we pull out each fall. My biggest walleye to date was a massive 32.5 inch 13lb walleye caught 3 years ago in the end of September. Each day I lace them up on a guide trip breaking my own PB in our boat is in the back of my mind. Frankly I hope a customer can put that 33 in the net this fall. I know the odds are stacked in our favor for a big girl as September rolls in. After a long summer of guiding it truly is the chance at Greatness that helps me pull those bibs on each morning. We’ve got some very prime dates STILL available in September for guys to raly the troops. After a non-stop guide run from May until……….NOW (79 guided trips) I haven’t really pushed those September dates, but we still have 9 days that can be gobbled up. Trips can be Big Walleyes, Donk Slabs or a combo trip. I’m offering a 3rd man fishes for free discount only for IDO boys!! Mention you read this offer in the next week and split your 2 man trip 3 ways!!
