This year it has been quite evident our “Eater Class” of walleyes has fattened up nicely. Limits of 15-16 3/4 inch fat walleyes has been common over the last month. It is very nice to see this class of fish amongst the healthy population of beautiful Rainy Lake slot fish. We also have a robust population of fish that now are entering the 13-14 inch range which should really keep anglers in some good “Hot Oil Bath” fish for the next few years!!

Over the years and again this summer it quite common to hear some rumblings about not being able to catch these eater fish. Keep in mind during most times of the season the best eater class fish will locate themselves slightly deeper or shallower than the bigger slot fish. Now as we are creeping into August several summer haunts hold an equal amount of quality eating fish and big girls making it a bit easier to add some fish to your potatos.

We’re still flipping jigs and minnows and the fish are still snapping them up!! Pressure on the lake I believe is down this year. The walleyes don’t seem to mind.

August is going to be on FIRE!! Take that Vacation or Call in Sick!! You deserve it!!

It’s pretty darn good Ben!! Frankly I’m more impressed with the nice assortment of healthy eating fish we’ve located this season. It started with you trip up shallow when we hammered out that limit in a couple hours. Heck that was nearly every cast!! We seem to always knock down big slot fish, but when you see a boat come in with 15-16 3/4 fish limits you can be sure they’ve put a hurt on the fish that day!

Still who can forget these BRUISERS from your June Trip Ben!! Beyond your early limit of beautiful eaters and numerous big walleyes it simply isn’t everyday that every boat member catches at least 1 pike over 40 inches!!
