Rainy Lakes infamous big Smallies were simply on FIRE today. it looks as though the big “Bronzebacks” of the northwoods are busy building nests with our recent warm up. We caught around 20 Smallies in about 1 hour today. 7-8 of these fish were 4lbs plus. The action was simply Awesome!! Angry hits and Bronze Bars flying out of the water!!

Congratulations to the “Texas Scoop” Shawna, Mike and Mark on some beautiful Rainy Lake Bronze!!

Hi JP!! Your timing should be flat out perfect for all species. For the massive Smallmouth remember these fish are building or defending nests for the upcoming spawn. They DO NOT like anyone coming in their HOUSE!! Location of the nesting areas will be the most critical ingrediant to your overall success. Plastics can be DEADLY as they invade the nests. Topwater will catch the most aggressive fish. At one point as we were pulling in another double 2 other fish were directly behind the hooked bass!! Find the soft sand/clay located between the boulders. Get off the beaten paths and travel carefully. The better nests are often slightly seperated from the shorelines. A slight wind swept nesting area will be GOLDEN for you!!
