Where will the 2011 Fishing opener bring you?
Same area I was for the last few years.
Pool 3 and 4 on the ‘sippi!
I’m one of only a few guys I know that can eat his mistakes.
I’ll be just a few short miles South of you. I’ll be down on the Ash River Trail. Don’t know how serious the fishing will be but……….getting away from the rat race will be priceless!
BTW, the chops & steaks done on the grill taste much, much better with that clean up North air floating around them.
Wishing I had enough $$$$ for the fuel it would take to get there and back

Isn’t that the truth Brian! Can’t you just feel the stress leave your body as you start to hit the White pines of the Northwoods. BTW Brian we’ve got a strong South wind today beating up the ice pretty good!!
I will be delaying my opener until May 25th. But from May 25th-June 1st I will be fishing on Rainy Lake
I will give Mille Lacs a day for people to scratch their itch and then go on Sunday.

A lot of guys will choose to car pool……..OR TRUCK POOL again this summer. From the Twin Cities (FOR EXAMPLE) to Rainy Lake your looking at roughly 300 miles (600 miles roundtrip) or a short 5 hour drive one way NORTH!! With gas prices spiked again this summer lets say your truck pulling a boat is getting a poor 10 MPG. Simple math says you’ll burn 30 gallons one way or 60 gallons round trip. If gas hits $4.00 a gallon you’ll spend $240.00 in gas. Split that up with only 2 other fishing buddies and you’ve got $80.00 into it. $80.00 in gas can drive you right into “Gods Country”. Probably the best $80.00 a guy can spend IMO.!!
That’s correct Chris.
3 of us went to the Rainy river and the fuel cost pulling the boat was about $77.00 each.
I will be doing the late night shift pulling cranks in the shallow waters opener.

Glad to hear it’s blowing up there. I heard the ice was out of the Ash River so I’m thinking it should be out of the lakes mid next week up there. Hopefully by the 1st anyway.
Are you coming down to pick up the new boat or they meeting you part way? Meeting for a burger if you had time wouldn’t be out of the question.
Hey Brian I’d love too. I’m heading through Wisconsin though to visit with Cheryls “Fishing Queen’s” family. Then heading back up the same direction with “Sho Time” in tow. I simply cannot wait to get in the new boat. Cheryl told me the other night I’m addicted now to the whole process of buying a new Skeeter each year. I scoffed replying “Experts say it takes 20 consecutive reps to form a habit” I’ve got 18 to go before risking an addiction!! Silly Cheryl!! She means well.
Take a look at this photo. I’m not fooled…”Chicks dig the WX2100″ More than once she mumbled 300 PONIES!! WOW!!
I wish that was the case Chris. When I split the gas with my wife I don’t see much savings We’ll still make our couple trips up there, will just cost a couple C notes more. P4 is about 7 hours one way but heck you can’t take it with ya GOOD LUCK on your opener

You can’t imagine how jealous I am!
Have a great season.
We’ll be on a small private houseboat on Rainy, in VNP. If the weather is a challenge, we’ll drink hot cocoa and watch our bobbers out the window. Life is good…!
