What are YOU??

For many years I always thought of myself as a “WALLEYE GUY”. I studied the Lindner tapes never missed a “WALLEYE SHOW” and intently studied the walleye movements. Maybe it was because as a kid our fishing trips were always WALLEYE TRIPS!! By no means did we always drop the hammer on Minnesotas coveted fish, but it was always the goal. This has stuck with me into my adulthood and even stuck with me in my guide career.

Still over the past couple of years I can honestly say I’ve enjoyed fishing for multiple species to the extent that I’m not certain I can call myself simply a “Walleye Guy” anymore.

I hate to give an inch to the “Bass Boys” still the smashing of a topwater in the pristine backwaters nearly will make a guys heart jump out of his chest.

The side to side huge bucket mouth of a 2lb Black crappie coming off a shallow rockpile during the spawn makes me lose sleep at night.

Then the tidal wave overtaking a stickbait by a “Girthy Gator” puts fear into the eyes of kids in the boat as the gals take toes out of the water!!

I don’t know what I am anymore. What I do know is I’m going to have an anxiety attack awaiting the open water to get a crack at the 2011 Rainy Lake fish!!

    I guess I’m just a “FISHING NUT”

What are you?? What keeps you up at night awaiting the 2011 Smackdown!!??

I’m a fisherman with preferences Chris.

I’d give up walleye in a heartbeat to go sit on an off-shore rig and chase Mahi Mahi all day. Or stay in-shore and chase Tarpon.

However since I’m about as far away from those species as I can get in the lower 48, I’ll take Walleye, Steelhead, Kings, Coho, Pike, Crappie, etc.

I have no idea what I am but would agree that a fishing nut would fit.

I love catfish but also love a day on any lake or river fishing for some specie.

Boating bull gills can be as much fun to me on a canepole as a big fish on heavy gear.

Justr give me a day on the water. Specie really does not matter.

    Great Post
I would have to say I’m a fishing nut. I really like Walleye and fishing for them but yet anything tuggging back can make an outing exciting. The lake where we go has a lot of species and you never know what you’ll pull up.

i find walleye fishing very frustrating. i get frustrated enough selling so to spend time in a boat being miserable is not a great thing for me. i find the smallmouth fishing to be great on my favorite river and they are usually eager to slam my chigger craws.
chasing largemouth is fun too although they don’t get real big up here. Muskie is defintitley on my target list also.

Well, I guess I’d say I’m just a guy who likes being in the outdoors with family and friends.Be it cutting wood, mushroom hunting or fishing. It’s not about how many fish you catch or who gets the biggest one…I will never fish for money or fame. It’s all about spending time away from your work or your normal surroundings, relaxing and enjoying nature at it’s best, and possibly catching a glimpse of a creature most people will never take the time to look or listen for.

All around nut. dont really care what it is if it gives me a good fight. it beats the hell out of sitting still or waiting for one species to start biting while the others are slamming gear. Hard fought carp, walleye, northern, bass, or even pannies on light gear ,,,dont matter ,,,ITS FISHING.

I’m primarily a walleye fisherman in the summer and panfisherman in the winter. I have no problem changing it up from time to time and going after other species. I’m always up for heading out with someone and learning a new species.

Like others have said, I really enjoy being on the water chasing fish.

95% of the time I am a die hard walleye nut. I eat, sleep and breathe walleyes to the point it’s become an obsession. Since I started fishing tournaments, it gotten progressively worse.

I think that because I spend so much time trying to learn everything I can about the walleye movements, patterns, techniques, etc. I end up burning myself out every summer.

This is where I like to chase other species to relax and just enjoy myself. Some of my favorite “other” fishing favorites I try to take advantage of each year are fishing Bluegills in NW WI, Door County, WI for Browns, BWCA for Lake Trout, Puerto Vallarta, Mex. for Sails and Mahis.

Now I know that this possibly could offend people, but at my age, I am an In-Fisherman!!! Count me as a selective harvest, multi-species fisherman!!! I love to fish walleyes, muskies, smallies and panfish. If I get to fish with people who want to chase catfish, LMB, sturgeon, northern pike or the like, count me in!!!

In the Northwoods where I live, I so look forward to the upcoming 5-6 weeks where all fish are shallow creating the best opportunities of the year. The feel of the thunk of an eye inhaling an 1/8 oz. jig in 2′-3′ of water doesn’t get any better. Once they leave the shallows and head deep, I leave them alone and become a musky angler for the sheer love of being on the water!!!

I have been looking forward to pursuing SMB in the prespawn period. Hopefully this will be the spring to get me started on what I believe to be one of the over looked bites going!!!

I have a mutual IDO neighbor (DodgeBoy & 25 years younger than I) here in the Northwoods and the thing that he has taught me is to take advantage of the hot bite if you can find it. String stretching!!!

My name is Dave…. and I am an ADDICT!

I fish walleye first but also have been known to chase those green fish (bass) and of course panfish of all kinds, trout, salmon. I guess it just depends on where I am and what I think will be biting the best. It also depends who I am with cause I may need more action than one species can provide to keep others in the boat occupied

Exactly Wade, If i could ever had the money to own a 36 foot yellowfin with double or triple Yamaha offshore’s i would gladly sell all my walleye gear in a heartbeat and move down there! Now aside from the dreaming, im a walleye guy, with a side of salmon in the spring!
