Houseboat Trip – Questions

I’m heading up for my first houseboat trip in August for a week and I have a few questions for those of you who have taken a houseboat trip.

Can we hook the bank chargers up at night to charge the batteries? If so how long of a cord will I need?

Any items that are a must have that a guy might not think of?

    Any other tips?

    Thanks Guys

yes you can 50 ft should be more than enough if you tie up to the houseboat

I’ll be picking his brain for sure. I’m hoping to borrow his rainy/low chip again! He drives a hard bargain for the chip though

A really good set of binoculars or spotting scope.

Already figured you’d be borrowing the chip-will even throw in a few waypoints. Same bargain as before.

Zonar, finding any morels down there yet?

Lots of ice and twice as much beer as you think you need.

We tied up our boats along side the house boat facing out away from shore. We used the house boat anchor ropes (from back of house boat to shore) to secure our fishing boats. This helps when it storms and the waves crash into the back of your boat (if the front of boat is facing shore). The generator on the houseboat we rented was in the back of the boat. A 50 ft extension cord would easily reach our boats if we were tied alongside the house boat. Make sure you have boat bumpers.

    Hi Russ

With so much buzz around Rainy Lake Houseboat trips in recent years I think your question of what to bring will be interesting for many of our IDO followers possibly planning their own trip. Tackle aside here are a few items I wouldn’t be without on a houseboat trip into VNP on Rainy Lake.

    Bait tamers
    fillet knives
    sharpener
    freezer bags
    cameras/batteries
    sunscreen
    bug repellent
    rain gear
    tow rope for each boat
    boat bumpers
    first aid kit
    binoculars
    water shoes
    sandals
    GPS
    Lake Maps
    Extension cords
    fishcleaning board
    Ice (RLHB)
    good sunglasses
    beach towel
    playing cards
    cribbage board
2 pair shoes (JUST IN CASE)
    swimming trunks
    small boat cooler
    can coolies
lawn chairs?? (Maybe you want to kick back on the shoreline)

Feel free to add some of your own “MUST HAVES”

Chris, do you know if the stereos on the houseboats have a place to plug in a Ipod?

I am not sure on that. My initial thought would be no, but not 100% sure. My music has been loons, waves and electric filet knives LOL!! A quick email to RLHB off our link to their site would get you a quick answer.
