Well we finally got a cold snap in these parts and some of the smaller lakes have fishable ice. I went to Mogadore Reservoir (Southeast of Akron) to give it a try. I caught probably 40 fish, a mix of Blue Gill and Rock Bass, in about 4 hours. The only problem was that only 6 were keepers. Most of the fish came from 5 feet of water on Chartreuse Rat Finkees tipped with maggots. I fished a few drop-offs looking for bigger Gills and Crappie, but I didn’t have any luck. Oh well, it was nice to be out on the water again.
The forecast is calling for high temperatures below freezing for the next 10 days. I’ll probably try Mosquito Lake or Sandusky Bay next Friday.
