Ottertail report for 2/20

Spent the afternoon working the mid lake structure off Grampas flat near Amor Point. Not much happening on the south side of it. We worked depths from 12 to 50 feet.

As we kept moving to the west, the fishing got a little better.

We finally hit a spot in 26 feet that held good perch numbers, and at about 5:30 the walleyes started. Ended up with four eaters by 6:30, and then they shut off.

Snow conditions are such that sleds are the way to go. Lots of slabbed up drifts like concrete. I could see where some in trucks got stuck several times.

Nice report Giss – sounds like you guys are doing better than most as I know the bite about anywhere has been slow. Nice to have that perch/eye combo on Ottertail, especially when those nicer perch can keep you busy until dark when the walleyes show up.

    Good work!

Just a FYI Joel, that spot was the first spot I took you guys to a couple years ago. I just wish the perch would grow a little more.

Broad gravel humps as I remember, which was a hole-hoppers dream come true. No real concentrations of fish that day, just a fish-here, fish-there – which I almost like better. Those are days when you can make your own odds with a little more work.

Thanks Giss for keeping us dialed-in!

Thanks for the call to go fishing, Gissy, but obviously I wasn’t around. I was doing another kind of fishing….fishing my BIL’s cell phone from inside a toilet. LOL

(A friendly note, and can be fishing related, don’t keep your cell phone inside a shirt pocket at any time, bend over open water and flush… ).

Glad you found some fish! The bite has been quite poor lately. The perch should be heating up soon…
