After a slow start to the New Year, the fishing has improved and it should be a good run thru the end of the month. For those of you headed up this way, or thinking about it, here’s an update from our local bait shop.
Otter Tail Lake Area Fishing Report
Fishing is Good – Pick Your Fish! You will find Walleyes in 18 to 35 feet of water. Best bite is early in the morning or later in the evening.
Perch are starting to bite in 8 to 10 feet of water on weed beds. Just bounce a jig on the bottom with a fathead, crappie minnow or wax worms. You will have to sort thru the fish – but you will find some great eating perch.
Panfish bite is also starting up in 10 to 15 feet of water. Crappie minnows or wax worms are working best. Look for fish to be suspended about 4 feet off the bottom.
Northern are hitting frozen smelt on tipups in 6 to 10 feet of water.
Ice conditions are good in the area and accesses are in good shape. Not a reason in the world to not be out fishing!
