Quick note on ice conditions:
With last weeks colder temps we did make some ice on Upper Red Lake, enough that many of the accesses are allowing light weight vehicles onto the ice. This means smaller pickups and little SUVs not ¾ ton diesels and larger SUVs. As much as I would like to say we have a consistent ice thickness across the lake and everybody should be perfectly safe I can not. We are dealing with Mother Nature and an ice sheet the size of the twin cities, so variances are inevitable. I have seen ice thickness the last few days vary from as little as nine inches all the way up to thirteen inches, other outfitters and areas of the lake have separate conditions and may have drastic difference in there ice report. Best would be to contact the resort or access you plan on using to verify condition for there region and roads before departing. As for me I am going to give it more time before I take a truck onto the ice. I think I am going to play it safe for at least another week.
Other then that I have seen some great fishing the last week and look for my Upper Red Lake Report here on IDO in the next couple of days…its going to be a BIG one.
