Guess you can’t say wind from the east-
fishing the least on Upper Redlake this
time of year! The winds stayed light to
manageable out of the east all weekend
and the fishing was very good for most.
While some had trouble getting “keeper”
size fish the action on 12 to 20+ inch
“eyes” kept everyone happy. The bite on
the S to SE shores was from 4-9′. Jigs
or spinners w/minnow, even cranks were
working. The crappie were just one here
and there for most as the water stays
on the cool side. Just ONE WEEK from
today when the slot on walleye moves up
to 20-26″ so people are excited!!

The “light winds” forecast the last couple
days have been 10 to 15 mph out of the WNW
most of the time. This has made the fishing
a little more difficult. While some have
had good luck others are finding sheephead
more than walleye. The temps are to warm up
for the weekend so hopefully that means SW
winds will take over??!! While there have
been a few good crappie reports from the
north shore and even the south “rock humps”
the cool water temps have made for a quite
inconsistent bite pattern. We are running
out of time soon but if warmer days are in
store we may have a week or two for the
slabbers to be active. Most of the fish are
still shallow 4-8′ and in the evening we
are still catching walleye and occaisionally
crappie off our dock in three feet or less!!

I’m not used to seeing Upper Redlake this
calm for this long, I like it! The nice
weather has made for good fishing conditions
the last week now and the walleye continue
to cooperate. The bite has been strong on
the SE and south shores in particular in
6 to 9′ water, many fish still being caught
in 4′ or less also especially in the evening.
Jigging or trolling doesn’t matter as most
all baits are working and the new slot is
helping people limit in short order!

Happy Fathers’s Day to all the Dad’s out
there! The weather and the fishing just
doesn’t get much better than the last 10
to 12 days here on Upper Redlake. “Crazy,
    unbeleivable, insane, fantastic” are just
some of the adjectives fishermen have been
using to describe the walleye action right
out front here on the South shore. The bite
is still in 4 to 8-9′ water. A couple slabs
here & there, some nice pike with a 42″ the
largest reported. The south winds and warm
temps to stay a while longer, Fish On!!!!!!
