February is gone but winter hangs on
tough! It has been nearly 10 to 20
below at night for several days. The
ice and lake roads obviously are in
good shape so far but not many trying
their luck after the walleye season
has closed. The few fishing this past
weekend had some decent walleye action
with crappie hard to come up with and
very few perch also. I have just a few
houses left on the lake which will be
coming off soon. We will see how warmer
weather that is forecast treats the
break that runs about a 1/2 mile out in
10′ water. So far it has been an easy
crossing. Keep checking in as we will
keep updating on ice and fishing action

We are closer to spring as daylight
savings time has kicked in, but winter
does not want to give up just yet. We
are to get 5 to 10″ inches of new snow
today through Wednesday am. We had a
few wheel houses out this weekend but
the ridge only allowed them out a 1/2
mile or so into 10′ waters, the walleye
were biting in those areas. I tried a
few gps spots looking for crappie via
snowmobile (yes even Tuma’s spot) but
no luck, just “eyes” and pike. There
just are not many rough ice patches in
the deeper waters to target. I will
probably not be bridging the break from
now on so anyone chasing crappie would
do good to bring an ATV or better yet a
snowmobile for quick access to the 13-14′
waters. I will update later in the week
    on post-storm conditions!

There is not much going here on Red
    with just the occaisional fisherman
trying for crappies. With all the
warm weather there is a lot of water
on the ice, this now has a crust of
ice over it making for difficult
travel in many areas. With 50’s and
maybe rain in the forecast it will
be very sloppy again. While there is
little snow left a snowmobile may be
better than an ATV for getting around.
This will probably be the last weekend
that we have our access open for this
    ice season.

It is getting wet around here! The rain
is helping melt what is left of the snow
pack, mix in 30 to 40 mph winds and being
inside makes a lot of sense. We had a few
crappie fishing this past weekend (mostly
walleye biting) and while travel was not
too bad by truck, the ice near shore is
begining to deteriorate quickly with the
warm, rain & wind. We closed our access
as of today, I imagine there will be a
couple accesses still open for a while
but fishermen should call ahead and be
prepared to bring an ATV or snowmobile.
Again a BIG THANK YOU to all of our ice
season customers! We will see some of you
for open water to the rest have a great
summer and see you next winter! We will
continue to give you year round updates
here so keep checking in for the latest
    from UPPER REDLAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
