I spent the final days of the inland lakes walleye season fishing Upper Red. The fishing can only be described as, slow. No matter where you were on the lake and who you talked to, everyone was having a slow time catching fish. When you did catch fish, it would be a couple at a time and then dead again. We managed to get some smaller walleye, 13-15 inches, and a few slab crappies. The walleyes preferred dead sticks with a fathead hooked through the back. The crappies didn’t care what you put in front of them. When I saw a fish suspended on the flasher I would reel up from off the bottom and the crappie would hit with vengeance. If you still want to do some late season ice fishing on Red, you might be able to find some crappies. Just don’t be expecting the numbers of fish from a couple years ago.

everything iv heard or read matched your info to a T.
im just wondering if the lake is starting its transition and the mud bugs are coming out early to slow things up, it seems kind of early for that to happen; with the cold still sticking it to us, give it a couple more weeks im guessing before things change but im not mother nature

Those are some really nice crappie, I would rather be dealt quality over quantity any day.
