After some of the coldest weather we have seen all year, it’s finally going to warm up a bit. With that the walleye bite should heat up some too. The walleye are still around that’s for sure. Getting them to bite is the task at hand. A slow jigging action and many times a still set line with a minnow hooked through the top of the back, is the best way to draw them in. The walleye are starting to get a little more aggressive with some decent hits and they are starting to take a bobber under the water again!! I fished tonight from 4:30 to 5:30 pm and caught 3 nice keepers. All the fish I marked bit except one. Many anglers are catching fish during the day and just after dark with the bite slowing way down after 7 or 8 pm. Early morning has been okay too. The walleye are spread out all over the lake. The key is to be in an area that is as far away from traffic and other anglers as possible. This year with all to snow cover it’s very hard to get off-road so we have been opening up areas for wheel houses all over. We have plowed paths and roads all over the place covering lots of area so finding a place all to your self shouldn’t be to hard.
The crappie have been hiding from us lately but a few are still being caught near the end of our four mile road. When you get one crappie now consider it a bonus fish and be happy there are still a few left.
I haven’t seen a big pike for quite some time now but they are still out there. One group had three big ones on all in one morning breaking their lines every time. They never did see them but they said they were BIG!! Good Luck!!

How are the roads out of the Westwind? We may be a little short on trucks this year. We’ll be fishing out of one of the Westwind’s houses.

The last weekend of Walleye season is upon us and the fish are cooperating. The Walleye are biting everywhere from 7 to 14 feet of water. Bigger fish are in the shallow water and the smaller keeper sized ones are out deeper. The Crappies are out in the deeper water also along with plenty of Walleyes. The evening bite is the best from 4-6 pm. Like always red, green and glow are great colors and dropping a jig on the gravel bottom will bring in the fish and turn them very aggressive. The big Northerns are still around and hitting an occasional tip up.
Also we have some more snow and the snowmobile trails are in great shape. They were just groomed on Wednesday night and should be setup great for the weekend. Good Luck
