Hey Jack, just talked to Nate again tonight and the walleyes are biting. He likes to call me at work and rub it in too. lol. Slipbobber fishing a foot off bottom with a red hook and a fathead minnow has been catching lots of walleyes. Jigging isn’t doing anything, you have to use a slipbobber. Last count was 20 walleyes with 12 of them within the slot.

Jeff has been SUPER with great service, checking on the guys alot to see if they need anything. Jeff has been plowing the roads and everything was all set up for them with their holes already drilled for them before they even got there. And they arrived 2 hours early and everything was ready already. GREAT service. They are already talking about a trip for next year up there at Agissiz Resort. Sounds like it just doesn’t get any better than that. Have fun up there Jack, you lucky guy you.
    Thanks, Bill

I would like to know when the walleyes are not biting on Red? It’s as easy as catching a little sunfish, only they fight a lot better.

Not a chance of sprint phones working up there. Bemidji will be your closest bet and that is 70 miles to the south I think. You would have a better chance of standing out on the ice and shouting your report for us to hear than your Sprint phone coming in.

What bar and time are we meeting at friday night? Pick a time and place.

If I remember right Agissiz’s is right next to Hillmans and there is a bar/restaurant right there. Anyone know the name of the bar? We could meet there 730 or 8 friday night to compare notes.

Mike – I use my Sprint phone on Red all the time with “Very Little Trouble”!! West Wind is the only decent sized bar in the area, it is before Hillman’s about a 1/4 mile!

I’ll be on Red “Hand over Handin’ them this weekend!

    Good Luck!

Well according to the map I should have service in some form, I pretty sure we all have different providers for cell phones in our shack, I would think one would work, sounds like we’ll probably not be too far from where Nate is fishing.

I think dinner will be fine, I’ll talk to ya later to firm things up.

The closer you are to the highway the better Sprint works. From what I understand Sprint targets the signal up and down road ways.

As for what does not work or work well on Upper Red

    Sprint
    AT&T
    T-Mobile

    Have limited if any coverage

    Verizon
    Unicel
    Midwest Wireless
    Trac Phones

All work well, In fact the tower off the NE corner of the lake is the Verizon/Unicel Tower.

Alltel worked on the lake- better when outside the shack. But it worked.
Alltel owns what was Midwest Wireless.

Maybe its just my phone then. I loose signal just north of mora and may only have 2 brief windows of service all the way to LOTWs. Sprint is my provider. Altell seemed to have much better phone service up that way.

good luck fishing this weekend up there you guys. Just talked to my dad and he said that he couldn’t a bite out there on slip bobbers two days ago. What he ended up doing was using a whole fathead hooked on a red/gold pimple and said they were absolutly crushing it. Caught about twenty five then pulled out of there to get up to lake of the woods for the night bite. Well good luck

    Bill,
thanks for the note and info. I’ll post about our trip soon.
I walked over to see Nate, and yes he was doing very well.
I also talked to Mike a few times.

my sprint phone worked no problem, just wouldn’t hold a charge long with the brutal temps.
    more soon.
    thanks,
    Jack

Wow Nick. Plowing at 2am. Thats hard core. How did the fishing go. We caught about 30 keepers for the 7 of us. No crappies. Just a few perch. Not to bad of fishing considering the conditions. The truck temps read 36 below saturday morning. Cant say enough about the Snosuits after setting up tip ups and doing some hole hopping on friday afternoon.
