“As of today ROGERS’ still is the only resort that has a road plowed out to the center bar.”
    Wednesday, December 31, 2008
Good numbers of walleyes are still coming in from the center bar but not like it was a week ago, the better bite has now moved to deeper water. I am not sure just what caused the move, could be the weather but my guess is all of the traffic the past week may have move the fish off the spot. Still just the occasional crappie with a trophy northern pike tossed in for good measure.

Today’s snow fall did make for quite a bit more work than I had planned for but I managed to get through it all with a little help from some of my friends, the big trick is going to get everyone off the lake tomorrow morning so they can get to church on time.
The walleye fishing seemed to pick up during the storm; maybe the fish thought that no one would be paying attention. They still are picking up a few walleyes on and near the “Center Bar” but for the most part the better bite is coming in from the deeper water 3 and 4 miles out. We are still seeing the stray crappie here and there which is good; there are just enough of them left to keep things interesting.

The “Center Bar” is still kicking out a few walleyes around the outside edges, the better bite the past few days has been 3 ½ to 5 miles out in 15+ feet of water, I suspect that the walleyes are feeding on some of the critters that inhabit the mud in this part of the lake.
The crappie fishing again is slow with just the occasional fish turning up here and there, the big northern pike have also become hard to come by.

Another very busy weekend is coming to an end and I am tired, the walleye fishing for to most part was pretty good with just about everyone heading home with their limits, still there were those who just could not find the right spot with walleyes under them and they did not do quite as well.
There still are a few crappies showing up along with a trophy northern pike tossed in for good measure, Joe karp gave away a few pins this weekend for some 40 inch plus pike that were released back into the lake to be caught again.
Our ice roads are holding up quite well even with all of the snow on the lake, there is getting to be some slushy spots along the road berms, so be carefull when leaving the main road. I have been busy plowing lots of side roads so people can get off the main roads and I have yet to find any slush except where someone has plowed and set up a house previously. As long as we can avoid some major wind and snow event we should be able to get around on the lake OK for a while longer.

    i found this report
There was 7 of us that went up to Red Lake this last weekend, we all caught our limits. We ended up catching over 100 Walleyes and 8 Crappies, and a 9lb Pike. Sat with my buddies rental houses out of Rogers. Evidentally that was the place to be. Pulling the house it took me about 3.5 hours, but I stopped 2 times. It usually takes me around 2 hours to get to winnie if I stop. Plus the roads were horrible!

Just one more 30 below zero night and I can shut my truck off for a few days, the past three nights have been brutal to say the least.
Even with the sub zero high temps the walleye bite has remained about the same, I would guess 15 to 20 walleyes per day per house is about what I am seeing caught with quite a few fish being in the slot. The crappies are still just one or two here and there but we did have one house that managed to catch 10 crappies in a two day period, so there are a few of them left out there.
A few more northern pike are showing up with many of them being over 40 inches, in fact we did have one fish measure in at 47 inches, hopefully I will have a photo of it tomorrow.
Our road is in excellent shape with lots of places for fishermen to pull off and park for the weekend, there is a little slush under the berm along the road so one needs to cross only where there is an existing roadway.

Jerry has been really b-u-s-y with the road and other things around here, so I better take charge and let you know how things are at ROGERS’. Our road is plowed and marked out 6 miles to the center bar, with pull off spots at the 3-4- and 5 mile mark. At this we are fishing about 5 miles out at best. As far as the bite goes, this is January and it is pretty typical that the bite gets slower, last weekend was a prime example of that. The bite over the weekend was slow for many. However this week things have been picking up. You still have to work for what you get, but the upside is the road is in good shape and we are catching at least some. Have a safe trip!

I sure hope this is the last really cold weather for this winter because Key west FL. is starting to look real go to me right now.
The fishing this last week has been tough, but there are still fish out there that are ready to bite, one just has to be in the right place at the right time. There does not seem to be any rhyme or reason to where the walleyes are or just what they are hungry for. I have seen fish caught here this last few days in close (10 and 11 feet) and out deeper (14 and 15 feet) I just don’t see a pattern at all, I usually say get away from the crowds of fish shacks and look for a spot that hasn’t been fished yet this winter but this week some of the better fishing has been right in the middle of it right next to the road, you figure.

    Greetings Fishermen!
Just a quick update here from ROGERS’ – – the bite as most already know has been on the slow side….We have been pretty spoiled up till the past couple of weeks with the bite being really good most of the time. I did see a crappie yesterday
(from the masked outfitter from Bob’s rentals pictured with this update) Crappies have been showing up this winter here and there. AND the pike have been pretty active and that too will spook any smart walleye right out.
The road is in good shape clear out to the center bar. Jerry has pull off spots at the
    3 – 4- and 5 mile mark.
Keep in mind walleye and pike close on the 22 of February. That’s it for today.
