    i just got off the phone with Jeff and he has a sleeper out already on the first break and is planning to take a couple more out this weekend– hes saying 10 inches of ice and its makeing ice really good with no snow on the lake;

    iv worked with Jeff while i was up there – good guy in my book along with a few others and if anyone needs some info on any business just yell and i can point you in a good direction with names, and phone numbers;
    im betting some big guns will be moving there smaller houses out real soon and driving small trucks out also;;

    I have asked Jeff to keep me informed either hear or to me by phone on fishing reports, so good luck to Jeff, Tylor, Cookie, Westwind, Morts and others;;

    i hope some of you IDO’S check these people out, i dont think you could go wrong in my books;;- they have a long season ahead of them with this early ice

    We are now driving full size vehicles as of this morning, 13 to 14 inches of ice, the fish are hitting best in 8 feet of water further off the first break, about 1/2 mile from shore, I’ll get some houses out about a mile tomorrow. P.S. the walleyes are hitting best on 4 inch suckers, they want a big bait.

    as you know the wind and snow coming could change things very fast;; Jeff didnt say you could drive all over the lake on that amount of ice check out Morts, Rodgers, and up and coming Westwind reports—

    Do you guys reccomend bringing up wheelers to pull the portables, or just throw them in the back of the 4×4 and drive around the ice that way?

    I put a house out at 2.2 miles yesterday, and there is more fishermen scattered around, so should have a good report soon,everyone has to have there own “safety feel okay about it” zone, as far as driving on the ice, personally I would not drive around on the lake with a wheeler in the back, that’s just some extra weight not needed. Either drive it out from shore or leave it home, is what I would do.

    Fishing was great yesterday, best bite for eaters was noon to 4 pm, the overs bit best after dark, I had two houses out yesterday, both limited.

    Well, I won’t be melting anytime soon, that’s a fact! Walleyes are still hitting, best bite is noon to 3 pm all season thus far, with the typical bewitching hour proceeding sunset a surprisingly lackluster affair. Still a crappie straggling through at the 3 mile range which always makes the smile on the catcher catching. I have all the bait you need and the road is in great shape. Cookie and I aim to be the freindliest, funniest,funnest,and in Cookie’s case furriest guides on the lake!

    I always used those figures too!

    a-couple means 2
    a-few means 3-4
    some means 4-6
    good fishing means 7-8
    we did alright means 8-10 we limited out

    those are great crappie terms on Red

    Iv been out of all of them except JR’S ON THE SOUTH END–most of the years i was out of Westwind, and started at 4 miles and went in all directions except back to shore,; Agassiz with Jeff and Cookie going out of there would be a darn good place to start, they give alot of info because they want you to have fun and catch fish, also there is a lot of room to move around in anywhere from 3 miles to 6 miles is a good place to start and work north if your portable- we have a v-plow so we can get away from crowds and off the main drag- im sure Jeff or Cookie can help you with that (plow trucks use gas too!!) a tip goes along way;; Hilmans on the north end is also good but the info is kind of slim and you have a tendecy to go where the crowd is-BUZZ!! Wrong thing to do, lots of traffic;;

    hope that helps
    Agassiz is between westwind and hilmans you cant miss there 16×20 ft log sign
