The Thanksgiving weekend is over for
another year, we were thankful to
have lots of family around to help
celebrate. There were a few fishermen
going out with mixed results, slower
for some while others had decent pike
and walleye action, mainly in the 10′
water depth. Water clarity is poor but
slowly improving. Most of the ice is
6″ or more but with the wind shifting
the ice around there are small areas
with only 2 to 3″. Best to check in &
follow safe marked paths. Continue to
check in and we will keep you updated!!

We are making ice this week! We
now have 10″ or more most areas.
We do not expect too many fishing
this weekend with the cold and NW
winds howling 20-30 mph. We are not
far from light truck traffic, with
cold forecast much of next week we
will probably see some traffic by
next weekend. There has been some
walleye bite in the 10′ water, seems
the clarity is better than in the 6-
8′ depths. Usually this 6 water just
a 1/4 mile out is good this time of
year. We have some fishing that depth
this weekend so we will see if it can
pick up as clarity improves. Stay in
    touch for updates!!

We’ve been getting some light snow
this week, perhaps more by Sunday.
The ice is 12″ average so we have
some light truck traffic going. We
now have a few rentals out and do
expect to get even the bigger houses
out next week. The walleye continue
to cooperate for most in 6 to 10′
depths. We are not fishing the 12 to
14′ water yet so no crappie action.

For all practical purposes the fishing
on Upper Red is over this weekend with
heavy snow and strong winds forecast
for all day and tonight. The good news
is that with over 12″ of ice we should
not experience big flooding or slush?!
We are just riding it out and will get
on road cleanup when conditions improve.
The fishing the past week was the best
since freeze-up. Most caught some nice
keepers, some got limits and released
quite a few slot fish. An occaisional
crappie even reported in the 11′ water.
Walleye are active in most depths 6 to
12′ plus any time of day or night. A
gold jig and minnow working as well as
glow jigs w/bobbers or rattle reels. We
should start getting the bigger houses
out by next weekend. Stay tuned!!

We have been making ice with subzero
temps pretty much all week, average
now 14″ plus. We have pushed out over
two miles on the main road. Walleye
are still biting good in the 8-10′
depths as well as the 13-14′ waters.
A few crappie out deeper, not too many
big pike reported. Sounds like a little
more snow possible on Saturday but our
roads are in very good shape!

Brrr…it’s about 20 below this am
but at least the wind is down. We
missed some of the Sat-Sun storm
with just a few inches of new snow
and winds mostly in the 20-25 mph
range instead of 30-40. The walleye
bite slowd a little Sun. as the cold
front moved in but fishing Fri & Sat
was very good. The 10-12′ water just
1/2 to 1 mile out front was as good
as anyplace.I did see one 40-1/2″
pike pulled up on Saturday but did
not here much on crappie action. The
ice is 16″ or more and our roads are
in great shape for the holidays!!!!!

    MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!! A little
quiet on the lake with the holidays,
but by Friday that should change! We
hope the weather can cooperate, time
will tell! The walleye bite this week
was pretty good overall tho a little
up and down. Some big pike have been
cruising through here and there and
just the occaisional crappie. Ice &
    road conditions are very good!!

What a difference a day makes! It was
calm & sunny yesterday while this am
we have fresh snow and strong NW wind.
The bite got a little spotty on the
walleye this weekend, some with very
good action while others struggled a
    little especially to find “keepers”.
There were a few bonus crappie and
also still some big pike making things
    interesting. The better walleye bite
seems to be moving from the 10-12 foot
water to the 13-15 foot depths although
we are still getting action at 7 to 8′
just a 1/4 mile out. We have over 18″
of ice now and the lake roads are in
    great shape!!
