Well my first time out on Red Lake in the boat was not bad, except for the weather. We got on the water at around 7:00 am and did not see a lot of other boats. But by 10:30 there were quite a few boats around. It took a little while to get our bearings and key in on what was working. By 10:30 we had boated 25 walleyes between three guys and had our 9 to take home. I would say that our results were typical from what we could see. Quite a few different presentations were working by the looks of it. We were dragging 3/32 oz. jigs with fatheads (orange/chartruese was the favorite color). Several boats were anchored up with bobbers or just casting jigs and were doing pretty good also. But what was with the weather at times it was difficult to see more than a couple hundred feet due to the horizontal SNOW!
Lots of fish and a lot of fun, a trip to remember . No big walleyes (19″ was the biggest) and no big pike (a couple in the 5-6 lb. range). Snow was actually accumulating in the boat. A guy should not be surprised at the weather for the Minnesota Opener I guess.
