Myself and a couple buddies from work headed to Red this past weekend. Fishing was extremely slow for us. We managed only two perch on Saturday out at Center Bar and three walleye on Sunday on the south end out of greater MN rental.
I will say, I have a new found admiration for Otter fish houses. If you’ve never fished in 40+mph wind and -28 air temps in an otter lodge, you’re missing out! The guy at West Winds thought we were absoultely crazy when we told him we had a portable!!! I’m sure mother nature didn’t help the fishing any, but when you have time to go fish, you go! We had a great time, but with all that water and -50 wind chills, it’s pretty hard to search for the fish. I fished outside for about 15 minutes ….wasn’t happening!
Ice conditions were fine. We definitely did not need auger extentions like we had heard. 19 inches in the first spot and 24 in the other spot. Oh well, at least I have the extention now. We were able to drive off the road for the most part. Just had to be careful of the drifts.
