While not extremely close to NLL or Sag, I just got back from a week on Lac Seul (July 19-26) in NW Ontario. The water on Lac Seul was down 6 feet from previous years, surface temp around 70 degrees.
Eyes patterned as expected for late July on Lac Seul — mid-lake rock humps as well as inside/outside points in 19-23 feet. Production was excellent. Most schools we located within that pattern were 14″-16″ and 21″-25″ with the occasional pig.
The fish were fairly aggressive. We vert jigged, 1/4’s and 3/8’s with a 3 inch grub and a chunk or crawler or leech. We have never had the need fo shiners up there.
I did notice in Ft. Francias that Rainy appeared to be down a few feet as well. The think what I can take away best is that with the water as low as it is the “regular” hot spots may not be the hot spot this year. We took some time to find the pattern; once locked in had a lot of fun.
Hope that helps,
J
