the report we got today is most of the ice on the lake is gone with the help of the wind-heard its piled near shore in a few spots but the outlook is looking better for opener- there are even reports of limits of slabs being pulled in at 4-6 foot along with the peastering eyes you cant keep yet- my best guess is not right in front of the river but head west or east from it- lets just say no more than a 1/4 mile in 4-6 ft and closer in for casting in to 2 ft and pulling a crappie hook tipped with a small minnow back towards you– the water temp has been moving up fairly slow but if we get a warm rain those temps will change fast– I like 60 as my starting point and that temp is coming- good luck– sounds like the river will be open for awhile till peak spawning- but I would prefer the lake edge–for awhile yet

We will be up there for a day the week after opener. So what do you think the fishing forcast will be for the eyes. Better the same or worse than last year. Last year we went up and had the walleye number up to 125 in a 6 hr period for me and another guy. Only kept 4 of course and a couple of crappies. Any size increase from last year? How long have you noticed the walleyes sticking around the primary drop. I went again around Fathers day last year and the fish were off the dropoff and it made things a bit more difficult as the fish were spread out. Thanks for any info and you two have a great Season.

I’ll be heading up with some friends the Monday after opener and will be staying at the Bearpaw. Any idea on where the crappie bite typically is at in mid-May? We were thinking a good strategy is to switch to Northerns and Crappies after our arms are tired from catching walleyes…if we have the same luck as last year that is!

We fished just on the deep side of the break and drifted North to South in 10′ with pretty good luck. No real monsters to speak of, but that’s to be expected for a few years yet, I suppose.

Hey how was the opener. I am going up this thursday and can’t wait to catch a bunch. Are the walleyes on the break in front of the river? Size? Numbers? Any info is appreciated whistling

the replys that I asked for are pretty slim

the South end is tough getting into–go North
    low water

the river has good fishing for eyes, trolling or bobber

stay near shore for crappies, not at the mouth but like I said in previous reports, and the same goes for gatores and eyes– any lure works– its spawning time!!!! and it wont last much longer— Russ SNAP FIZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!
