there reporting ice is ranging from 4-7 inches from shore to about1/2 mile to a mile out, the mile out is flirting with a death wish because 3 days ago some of it was open water, 1 report was there were several guys fishing out an atv or sled just the other day, another reported he broke through with his sled but managed to keep moving- the ice heaves are near shore but some are 15′ high but passable, there are some spear houses going out to 8′ of water but the lake is pretty stired up and hard to see, cameras might see about a foot right now, the fishing has been spotty right now because of it but the gators that are coming out are in the 6-20+lbs along with eyes- this is just my thoughts- were planning on taking our houses out December 31 OR Jan 1 because of the weight im sure small houses will be out there before then–also some places like Westwind have been closed at Xmas I will check to see what there planning this year and give a report back

IMPORTANT NOTE- DO NOT BRING any eyes from other lakes onto Red, leave them on shore with a business establishment well marked

NO EATING OR FILLETING ANY FISH THAT HAS a slot limit on them, eyes, gators, you must go to shore and eat them and the limit is 2 each in the slot size on eyes

everyone is reporting the lake is continueing to make ice but there are reports of cracks that are unsafe and open water as the ice shifts- no roards are open to vehicles yet, there is around 3″ of snow and some drifts are a foot deep in certain spots- just remember a few days ago they were fishing and atv out

I tried to get some info for a report that would get everyone excited but-here it is anyway- most of the business owners are still getting things ready for the ice season and spot checking ice conditions and testing for fish bites reporting a few crappie caught (they thought for a bit they found the mother load)poof gone, the eyes are picky but steady, gators seem to be scattering but still catchable, dusk seems to be the time right now but you have to move as always-they didnt recieve the rain we got in mid Minnesota so theres some snow but dissapearing-the ice is gaining but this week its slowed up (not very trusty in places) most are still trying in 7-10 foot of water- Westwind is trying to breakdown the rough ice from shore with a drag to make it easy on plow trucks but its slow going, they also reported they wil be closed on Xmas so check ahead to each business before going-everyone we have talked to is reporting there sleepers are really filling in fast as well as ours so check us out http://www.russandjudy.com

Heres a fresh report. Hillmens has a road out 3.2 miles. They are allowing only small vechicles out at this time 1/2 ton or less. The walleye fishing has been spotty in close. Most of teh fishermen this weekend are still fishing in close 7 to 8.5 feet of water. I fished friday eve and saturday morning three walleyes and one smaller pike. Not bad if you consider I only fished a couple of hours total, I did take the sled out to the end of Hillmens road . There is a pressure ridge running se almost all the way to the east shore.I was surprised I expected to see more rough ice but it may be hiding under the snow.
