Crappie fishing on Upper Red Lake now is in full swing. The next couple of weeks will be prime time for catching a pail full of slab crappies.
Right now the better bite is in close to shore, look for the fish to be in 4 to 8 feet of water. A 1/16-ounce white or chartreuse jig tipped with a minnow fished about two feet off the bottom is probably your best bet. Lately the toughest part has been finding a place out of the wind.
