Anybody up to URL recently? Am heading up to fish Friday and Saturday? I had to make the trip this year, just to check out this ‘new’ water.

Thanks in advance for any reports/tips.

My bud and a few others got back from a 4 day trip on Sun. They caught fish but said it was slow, many folks they spoke with had the same sort of luck. He said it was nothing like opener, they had to work for their 2 fish limits. But, this was during the cold front, so…

I am going up on Friday also. I talked to someone who went up there last weekend and said the same thing. He went home with no fish. All his fish were either less than 13 or over the slot. Although he said everyone is fishing the primary dropoff on the eastside. I bet if you looked around a little more you could get on more fish. That eastside has gotten hammered on since the opener.

Well the report from this weekend was poor to say the least! We only ended up boating 3 eyes a perch 1 14″ crappie and 4 sheaphead. In fact we pulled up camp and headed to a couple holes in Bermidji with way better results. The panfish in that area were popping along with a better walleye bite and pike bite.

I was so pumped for Red. But, it seemed like everything we tried did not work. Trolling all aspects, slips, jigs, casting, yada yada yada. Maybe it was just to nice out??

75 to 80 and partly sunny with no wind.

But the good thing was my buddies were in a good mood and the Grainbelt was very cold

There were not many people on the south end from what I saw. Most most were hanging on the crib culster by Morts and fishing in the 8′ to 10′ range. For the most part seemed like boats were dragging the bottom.

We were marking tons and tons of fish but could not get them to pop. My buddy was casting a beetle spin ( He was bored ) and boated a nice 23″ eye ( Released of course ).

Never saw the Warden so that was nice

We were up there last weekend. I was with my Brother and dad. We caught around 20 walleyes. I was a little too picky with me keepers and we only ended up with 5. No crappies. We were in the middle of the lake and were checked by the DNR. First time in my 35 years of fishing. I was using jigs with plastics moving quickly looking for active fish. It did not work well. We had to slow down with the jig and minnow to catch the fish. We were in 10-14 fow. I guess we did okay considering my dad and brother were tangled with each half the time. you have to fish defencive with those two because half the time they are eating or sleeping with there bails open. All and all we had plenty of action with the walleyes, sheephead and pike but not like it was 3weeks earlier when we caught 120 walleyes in 6 hours. Does it normally get slow in the summertime? Hows the fall bite? Such a big change in the bite in a short period of time. That’s fishing I guess.

Its getting to the time of year for Pike. Ive had the best luck trolling spoons on the last break which is in the 4-7 ft range. It seemed last year that the hotter it was the better. I know some people with lake maps have found success on the small structure around the lake for walleye. Remember that a 2 ft change in the bottom on Red is considered structure. Good Luck. Ill post again after this comming weekend.
