Drove up to URL monday morning for a two day trip. could not find anyone to go with me, quess the friends I called have jobs during the week, bummer. With some of the good reports I had been receiving, just had to get up there at least one more time. Stayed in a friends house out of the WW road about 4 to 6 miles out. Nice weather and light winds, and mild temps, wow not bad. got to the house around 3pm monday. First minnow down the hole only got 6 feet down, then was intercepted and clobbered by a beauty 13 1/2 inch Crappie, second minnow got down to 7 feet before a 13 1/4 incher nailed it. My third minnow got down to 9 feet when the nicest Crappie of the trip hammered it, a 14 1/4 incher. that is probably my nicest Crappie I’ve ever caught. My fourth minnow actually had to be jigged near the bottom for 15 seconds before a 12 1/2 fish hit it. total time actually fishing for these first four fish was about 3 minutes, in the first 15 minutes in the house. A really nice start to the trip I’d say. That was my last crappies for monday afternoon , then the walleyes starting hitting pretty regular . some were very active, while others were finicky. the night bite was slow, but had two walleyes on the rattle reel. things picked up at 7:10am (got woken up)with a double, one 17″ walleye on the rattle reel, and a 13 1/2 Crappie on the bobber rod. quess I’ll stay up and start fishing the rod again . In the next hour up to 8:15am, I sat there with one rod, in my socks and underwear , catching crappies and walleyes very reqularly. a few vehicles stopped by to say hi, so thought I’d better get dressed. things slowed by mid to late morning. I started to not feel good by late morning so stopped fishing and laid down for awhile. Looked like I was not very smart keeping fresh air in the house , and had too much CO. learned my lesson on that one. Overall the trip was pretty fantastic. It was pretty cool releasing over 13″ Crappies, had a total of 13 crappies, up to 14 1/4″( I will mount this one for myself), and had 10 walleyes over 15″, including 5-17’s, 19″, 22″, and a whopper at 25 inches. I stopped counting walleyes under 15″ but they were numerous. Really was a good trip, I have my pictures loaded into my computer finally, and will get a few of those shots on here later today.

Hey Jack , what a great report. Love to fish that URL. The last time we were up there was the middle of Jan. I`d like to go one more time before ice out. Give me a shout if you ever need a partner. I only work 14 days a month,so some of my days are open. HOOKSET

Here is the nicest Walleye I’ve seen on Red Lake a 25 incher. Sure did not want to come up through an eight inch hole. Jack..

Same issue here, Jack. Caught a 14.5″ crappie up there on Sat, also a personal best. Took some pictures of it when I got home and now have to decide whether to get a replica or not. Definetely a good time when they are on a run.

Hey Jack, sorry it took so long to get registered. Got side tracked driving to Iowa to go shed hunting, turkey scouting, and just messing around. 20″ snow does make it a long trip. Any way just thought I would commend you on a nice group of slabs. Went out this weekend and much to my surprise found slabs still where they where before, but by monday things slowed, maybe the weather, but then couldnt complain about the beautiful temps and rays on monday. can’t catch fish all the time, wouldn’t fishing. The eye’s were still biting, still plenty of ice, access was begining to become sloppy. Will be wheeler or sleding out from now on. fish on!

Great crappies Jack. Wish I could have gotten into the crappies like that when I was up there!
