Headed up to Upper Red Lake this past weekend. I was anxious for some early ice walleye fishing. Ice was great and the weather was even better, it was perfect! Upon arriving to Rogers Resort, we unpacked our gear and ventured out on the ice. We caught 3 keepers that evening with a lot of other non-keepers mixed in. The next day, it seemed to have slowed down… But with advice from Al of Outdoor Authority and his transportation from his 2×2,we ended up moving a little deeper and that’s when the fun began. We caught many keepers and managed to pull out a healthy 21″er. Our final day out, it didn’t seem to let up. We caught and released over 20 walleye.
Can’t thank enough, the care the guys Dannie and Al from Outdoor Authority, the countless check-ins on how we were doing, to the advice and suggestions of lure selection, to the transportation to and from the ice, awesome service!
For ice conditions… Ice varied in places with 7-11 inches. From shore to about 50 yards out, ice was a little choppy and suggest to travel slow. Hoping the weather that’s here/coming is gentle up there so the ice will continue to get better.
Best of luck to those going up to URL and around town, we’re in for a great year!
