So with the forcast of snow this week the skim ice we have will definitely not be safe this weekend. I was thinking of taking a road trip to Upper Red Lake. Does anyone have any suggestions of some where clean with reasonable rates to stay? I would be taking my truck and trailer with my ATV. This being virgin trip to URL are there resorts with lake access roads staked out that you recommend? Any suggestions or things to watch out for are welcome. Just want as much info as I can since I’ve never been there before and don’t want to make any mistakes.

Ha, I was thinking the same thing. I looked at the 7-1/2 hour drive and got scared off though.

Made my first trip ever to Red Lake on Saturday. We went out of Rogers. They had a staked road out a few miles and were plowing some of the minor snow drifts out there. Not sure on lodging, but many fish house rental services are based out of there. The fishing was great, so I would go back.

I can’t speak for any other resorts, but we stayed at Rogers when we were up there two weekends ago in rental from of the outfitters who runs houses there. I was very impressed with the operation up there and especially liked their indoor cleaning room that was connected to the bar where you could stop in and have pizza and beer waiting for you as soon as you were done cleaning

Our shack was through Outdoor Authority [Owner’s name was Danny and his number is 763-244-7915] but I also had a chance to talk with several of the other outfitters in the evening when we stopped at the bar and they were all great guys so I don’t think you could go wrong with any of them.

Great info and thank you all. Sounds like the best option is a sleeper house. I checked out some of the layouts online and they look pretty nice! Hopefully you will see a post from me this weekend with my first URL walleyes!

Bearpaw has amazing service and they rent cabins at a very reasonable rate.

if you are thinking a motel room would be cheaper I would first make some phone calls with sleeper outfitters. I know Morts (whom I have done business with for nearly 10 years) has very reasonable rates (ie <$100) and you get to fish all night.
