With this decent weather and drive anywhere ice conditions the gf and i headed to The walleye capital of the world. With adrians and other resorts making new roads we found ourselves were i wanted out from the gap to see if we could catch any staging walleyes. Well after catching 2 saugers in the first 30 minutes at our first spot and no more marks other than that i decided to move a little further east and out a little deeper as i figured with these little bit colder temps the eyes might be out a little further than they were a cuple days prior as i heard from reports. Got set up in our new spot and started marking fish right away. Nice BIG red marks a foot off the bottom! We could not get them to bite! Would come up a “sniff” it and away she goes. We were using pink matcho minnow(my favorite for lotw) and a gold buckshot tipped with a minnow head. After messing around with stuff and catching a couple more 12″ saugers and not catching those BIG marks that were coming thru i tied on a b fish n tackle gold blade bait and i was glad i did. Those nicer marks came to the top of my hole with that sucker. Never seen these fish like this as i was ripping it 2.5ft from the bottom and watching them go nuts. I caught 6 nice 14-19″ walleyes and saugers in a matter of 20 minutes with my blade bait. Got a pic of first 2 fish with it. Dont want to ruin any secrets but i figured i probably was the only one on lotw running a blade bait this afternoon and decided to share. Good luck! O Forgot to mention marked proably 40 very nice marks in a hour and a half time frame. Some were caught after i figured out the wanted a little crazyness down there.

A lot of guys up here use blades for trout, Whitefish, and Salmon through the ice…no reason they wont work for Walleyes on hard water! Good Job!

Thanks brian. I gave her the rod for a little bit but she couldn’t quite get it down. Its weird normally i never have time to fish because im always grabbing the fish out of the hole for her.
