Found a break in the action so I escaped to LOW for 2.5 days of staring down a hole. I had a chance to meet up with a couple long time friends who are fortunate enough to have cabins at Rocky Point. Once again the ‘eyes and saugers didn’t disappoint especially considering temps never eclipsed the zero mark. Friday was the mildest (haha) temp day so we opted to try new water a good distance out. Ice was a solid 9 to 10 inches everywhere we bored holes. Did average and managed a mess of fish to gorge ourselves on at the Rock Harbor. Saturday we opted to stay closer in the vicinty where some larger schools were caught prior to freeze up. After starting at the top of the reef and working out we found them deep and it was steady action. Keep in mind that we opted to enjoy LOW’s banker hours bite. Threw a handful of slots back, sent a few 14 – 19 inch ‘eyes/saugers to the hot oil bath and put many 14 and under back. Fat heads out fished shiners. We picked up fish on a variety of baits as we worked to find that one magic lure. I’d say red glow Frostie’s and rocker jigs in pink/white tagged a few more. As you can imagine slow was the ticket. Many times the slow, graceful drop would be met with a tug as the line got tight. Overall a great trip considering the temps and limited time we put in wetting a line. Saturday the wind chill was brutal but thank the Lord for the great gear we have to choose from. Monday morning the Ford’s temp read a brutal -31. Then I hit home to 18 plus inches of snow and the fun was over… ’til next time, thanks Tuna, Todd and LOW! Be safe out there and good luck! Kurt
