Made my first trip to Lake of the Woods this past weekend. The fishing was great. We caught fish everywhere we went. No huge fish but plenty of action. We fished as shallow as 10′ and the normal 32′. Always jigging a frozen shiner and something gold. Tried a few other colors but gold really out fished all other colors. We went out with Guide Steve Sweet on Friday and Saturday night. He put us right on the fish and we had a blast. The big fish of the day Friday night was 23″ and I got the big fish of the day on Saturday coming in just over 21″. Sunday we ventured out a little further and found a nice hump on the Lake Master chip (Thanks Doc!) in 28′. This spot yielded lots of bigger fish and mostly walleyes. The shiners were not running as of yet and the water temp was in the low 50’s. We did check a few of the lights on the resort docs on the way in Friday and Saturday and not a shiner to be seen. Might have to try to sneak back up in a week or two. What a great place to spend a weekend!
