Our group will be headed out of Sportsman’s Oak Island the second weekend of January. For those guys that get out and fish up there between now and then, I’d be interested to know how the fishing is and if they are prefering any particular lure / color.

Any info / updates would be much appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Mike

I haven’t heard of anything yet. I will be fishing JAKE’s the 8th and 9th. Hope your group has good luck. I will post how we do when we get back.

Just wondering how the water clarity is up there there this year….

More specifically, I’m wondering if it would be worth taking up a Marcum camera…

    Thanks!!

Haven’t had a camera down and havent been that far north. However, clarity seems pretty good on the south end. I’m guessing I can see a lure about 6′ down the hole on the drop. There is some snow cover now, but 17″ of ice has to be better than 3 feet for the cameras. It may be worth bringing it.

It sounds like the clarity on the angle this year is as good as they have seen it in a while… Sounds like that might translate into better fishing as well.. ??

Can’t wait to get up there. If anyone get up/back from there and doesn’t mind posting your results / hot lures or colors, I’d appreciate it! Sounds like the catching has been fairly good so far…

    Thanks!

Fished the angle half day on new years eve and the same on new years day. Sounds like fishing has been soso up there thus far after chatting with some folks in the area. A buddy and me did really well in deeper water. Lots of eater walleye, saugers, and a few slots in the mix. Even got a few big perch.Gold, glow red, and orange were the best colors.

Sounds good… Hopefully the fishing will at least stay steady or pick up a little for us when we get there.

Sportsmans oak island told me they usually average 30-50 fish per angler per day out of their shacks… I’ve talked to some guys who have fished up there a few times that say that sounds about right, but it seems pretty optimistic. Whatever happens, we are just hoping to catch a few fish and possibly do better than we have done on the “reef runs” our of the Wigwam in years past. (Not that we have done bad on the reef runs, but always looking to improve catch rates…)

Either way, should be an awesome time.

    Thanks!
