Buddy Jim got to the lake and set up about noon yesterday. From noon to 4 he and a buddy iced around 20 fish. Kept 4 between 16″ and 18″. No over the slot and the rest dinks. 18′ of water, buchshot spoons.

This morning, only one little pike so far and 8 dink walleyes. He said he’s in rough shape after pulling some winners at Wigwam last night. -)

I’m sure he’ll put a full report up when they get back.

Not sure where your buddies are fishing. But I’m betting out from Pine Island or Morris Pt. Talked with a few guests at the lodge today reporting 90-100 fish coming through the hole in their houses. Sounds like lots of sauger and eater walleyes. That 28″ is a nice fish.

We were hearing 50-60 fish in houses also, only problem was, when we saw these same guys in the fish cleaning room, they only had 10 – 12 fish to clean for the 12 guys in their group!
There is a pile of _ULL SHEEEYUT being spread around by a few wanna- bees!! The pails in the fish cleaning rooms were not heaped over either. With all the reports of 60 – 100 fish, I am wondering where all of the carcasses end up??
We did catch around 30 fish between the two of us, but we also talked to a bunch of guys on the ice and they all said it was pretty slow.
We did the run and gun on Monday with not much more than really slow, finicky bite for results. Mostly small saugers. Of all the fish we had come into view of the Vexilars, we only missed about 6 or 7.
We still had a better time than we would have at work!!

There has been some strong year classes of sauger the past handful of years in LOTW. Tons of 8-11″ saugers. With some sorting most folks are finding keepers in 12-14″ range

Yes WW it is misleading and maybe some do embellish but, saugers do count and a tally, not a kill though. Most LOW reports are hight numbers caught not hight numbers kept. Every time i graph a fish that wont hit I have to wonder if I am wasting my time trying to coax a 6″ sauger into biting. –Mark

Totally agree on the Sauger. Somedays a guy needs to catch a ton of fish…but it can get old. Those damn bait stealers. A good way to avoid the “wasted” time working Saugers is to just fish shallow in the morning and evening. It’s a shorter bite window, but atleast you know you are marking walleye on the vex.
