Seems like the posts are few and far between in this forum. Does anyone fish much up there? How are the ice conditions? Does anyone have any reports? Looking forward to getting up there in a few weeks.

Do most people pull their wheel houses out on public roads or private resort roads? Do the resorts offer plowing services if you need to get to a spot or ever move?

Some resorts have roads and some just use the “Bombadiers” to get to their rental houses, especially later in the season when the houses can be out 10 miles. As of today Morris Point Resort, as an example, is not allowing any wheel houses out due to lack of ice and some pesky pressure cracks near shore.

Looks like our third nice day in a row here on Lake of the Woods. Temps have been in the low teens the last few days after nearly a week of sub-zero temps. There is anywhere from 10″ – 14″ of out from Pine Island, The Gap, and the Morris Point areas on the East end of the lake. Traffic is still being limited to ATV and sleds, but the resorts are running smaller SUVs on the ice. Fishing out of Border View Lodge has been good this past week. Good numbers of 14-18″ walleye have been coming in w/ an occasional big fish. Saugers are of no shortage this year. However, they are running small due strong year classes the past few years. Some sorting is needed. The best fishing has been in 23-26′ of water, but the shallower depths can be great in the early morning and late evening. Word is the snowmobile trail up the Northwest Angle is being staked this weekend.

    Tight Lines.

Looking to bring a wheel house out in a week or so. Sounds like that might be a possibility. Good to hear the fishing has been solid.

We had a solid 15″ of ice almost everywhere we went. I would think that by the weekend it will be pushing 18″ in most areas. Call ahead to save yourself the trouble of not being able to go out with the wheel house.

Ended up going out of Morris Point last weekend with a wheel house and had in the neighborhood of 18-20″ of ice. Set up in 21ish feet and had good success. Seems like most people were having the same luck.

Out by the Long Point area I have been seeing appr. 13″-15″ of ice as of late yesterday. Fishing has been great as of late. The shallow bite slowed down so we moved out into 28-30ft and it’s been a great bite for 5 days now. The Lindy Rattlin Flyer tipped with a chub has been the best for us but when the Vexilar lights up it honestly hasn’t really mattered. This is the best shoreline bite I have seen for a few years. Let’s hope it continues!
    Happy New Year to all!!
