    Good morning to all!

Daily Fishing Report: The weekend brought a lot of success and bunches of fun for many an angler on Lake of the Woods and Rainy River. I was able to see first hand a few nice Walleyes and Northern Pike over the weekend and it made me want to never leave the lake. People are “catching” Walleye in Rainy River, Four Mile Bay and Lighthouse Gap. The lure of choice is still the Chartreuse, Pink or Orange/Gold 3/8 oz & ¼ oz Jigs (all which I personally used and was successful with this weekend). For the bait, I personally used frozen emerald shiners, but I have heard people saying that they are also using, fat head minnows and rainbows with the same success. The depth of water you want to be in will range from 14’ to 20’ and the water temperature was hovering right around 49 – 50 Degrees Fahrenheit. I hope this information serves all my angling buddies well!

I wanted to use this addition to also talk about the May 2009 Weekday Specials (Sunday – Thursday) that we are offering right now at the Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods. First, we have dropped our price for lodging to $30/per person per night, which is a 33% savings. Secondly, we have an offer for lodging and a fishing launch trip that is out of this world. We are offering 1 night lodging and 1 day of fishing with our experienced guides (Tom Briggs (owner of the Wigwam), Billy Kloos and Kevin Olmstead)…all of whom have over 30 years each of guiding experience, for the basement bottom price of just $100 per person. If you don’t have the big boat, or just don’t want the hassle of brining your boat to Lake of the Woods, let us be your experienced guide. My personal thought is, WOW, what an opportunity to fish with the owner of the Wigwam Resort…Tom will have you coming back year after year!

Happy fishing to all, and to all a good day!

Had the best fishing of my life on sunday and monday, fishing the gap in 17 feet of water. 4 fish right at 28 inches. How long does this bite typically last?

Daily Fish Report May 12 2009: Today we are experiencing a little rain, which is not supposed to go away until Thursday, so bring a boat that has a top or you may want to invest in some good rain gear if you plan on visiting Lake of the Woods today or tomorrow. The word on the street has not changed from yesterday. People are still catching a large number of Walleye in Rainy River, Four Mile Bay, Lighthouse Gap and about a 1/4 mile past Lighthouse Gap into Lake of the Woods in 14’ to 20’ of water. The size of the Walleye’s are ranging from 15” to 32” on average, and a majority of the fish that are being caught are bigger…20” to 27”. The water temperature is 50 Degrees Fahrenheit. The lures of choice are still your 3/8 oz or ½ oz Chartreuse, Pink, Orange/Gold Jigs and baits of choice are the frozen emerald shiner or live fat head and rainbow minnows. If you are fishing in these areas and using these lures and baits, you should be giving yourself the best opportunity to catch some great Walleyes this week.

Daily Fishing Report May 13th 2009: Things have yet to change from the past few days, but there is another place that is beginning to warm up and that is by Morris Point. My sources are still fishing with 3/8 oz & ½ oz Chartreuse, Pink and Orange jigs and a majority of them are using the frozen emerald shiners. Some people are starting to catch some nice fish in 5 to 8 foot of water near the shores. While the others are still milking Four Mile Bay and Lighthouse Gap for everything shes got and there is no end in sight. You want to still be fishing in 12 to 18 foot of water and using the same lures and bait as my buddies fishing over by Morris Point. There are some nice Walleyes coming out of the lake…I would have to say that a majority of them are in the slot that must be thrown back, 19 ½” to 28”. If you have yet to get out this year and fish Lake of the Woods, don’t waist anymore time thinking about it, just like Bo Jackson & Nike used to say “JUST DO IT”!!!!

Daily Fishing Report May 14th 2009: Today’s weather is the only real difference in the fishing report from the past few days. Our conditions are currently overcast sky, 40 Degrees with scattered showers and 30 mph winds…not perfect fishing conditions, even for our 27’ launches, but the good thing is that the anglers are prepared for the nasty weather. Morris Point is starting to heat up…my sources are still fishing with 3/8 oz & ½ oz Chartreuse, Pink and Orange jigs and a majority of them are using the frozen emerald shiners and live fat head and rainbow minnows. Some people are starting to catch some nice fish in 5 to 8 foot of water near the shores, where they are out of the wind and just a tad bit warmer. The rest of the fisherman/women are continually catching fish in Four Mile Bay and Lighthouse Gap. The people in the bay and gap are still fishing in 12 to 18 foot of water using the same lures and bait as my buddies fishing over by Morris Point. There are some nice Walleyes coming out of the lake…I would have to say that a majority of them are still in the slot that must be thrown back, 19 ½” to 28”.

Daily Fishing Report May 15th 2009: The weather today looks phenomenal, but the wind is blowing at 30 -35 mph, which is making for some tough fishing conditions. This morning we saw 4 foot rollers whipping through Four Mile Bay and down Rainy River…ouch! Our conditions are currently very few clouds and sunny sky’s, 45 Degrees with gusty winds up to 35 mph…once again not perfect fishing conditions, but this is what we have to work with today…lets make some lemonade out of those lemons. People are still catching fish from Morris Point all way to Birchdale…my sources are telling me that the heavier jigs are doing the trick (½ oz to 1 oz). The colors that you want to be fishing with are Chartreuse and Orange…the bait of choice is still the frozen emerald shiners and live fat head and rainbow minnows. People are catch some nice fish in 5 to 8 foot of water near the shores, where they are out of the wind and just a tad bit warmer. The rest of the fisherman/women are continually catching fish in Four Mile Bay and Lighthouse Gap. The people in the bay and gap are still fishing in 12 to 18 foot of water. There are still some nice Walleyes coming out of the lake…the pictures don’t lie. Hope to see you on the lake!

Daily Fishing Report May 18th 2009: The weather today was excellent in the morning, but started getting a little breezy this afternoon, nothing like this weekend though. Weather conditions look great for tomorrow…mostly sunny with a high of 60 Degrees…East winds 10 to 20 mph…this should be perfect conditions for some great fishing on our side of Lake of the Woods. My sources are telling me that the heavier jigs are doing the trick (½ oz to 1 oz)…the fish are on the bottom so you have to get there. I personally use a 3/8 oz jig, which does the trick for me. The colors that have been working are Chartreuse and Orange or even the combination of both…the bait of choice is still the frozen emerald shiners or live fat head and rainbow minnows. We are having the best success catching fish from 12 to 18 feet of water. We are fishing in Morris Bay and Four Mile Bay (right in front of the Wigwam) and having excellent success. I hope this will give everyone the right ammo to have a great day of fishing on Lake of the Woods! Hope to see you all on the lake!

Daily Fishing Report May 19th 2009: The weather today was excellent in the morning, but started getting a little breezy and we had a few scattered showers this afternoon, nothing like this weekend though. Weather conditions for tomorrow look like this…showers early then scattered thunderstorms developing late in the day turning warmer high of 69 with the wind out of the south to southwest in the morning shifting to northwest at 10 to 15 mph later on in the day with a 40% chance of rain. What this means is, if you’re not out early then you probably will be getting a little wet tomorrow. My sources are telling me that the heavier jigs are still doing the trick (½ oz to 1 oz)…the fish are on the bottom so you have to get there. I personally am still using a 3/8 oz jig, which does the trick for me. I hope everyone has a great day of fishing tomorrow if you want to brave the weather…good luck and I look forward to hearing about your successes.

The bit is still on…Lake of the Woods is the BEST FRESHWATER FISHERY IN THE WORLD!!!! If you don’t believe me just checkout our site for all the pictures…this happens each and every summer. It always amazes me at the number of fish caught (size and quantity) on Lake of the Woods. http://www.wigwamresortlow.com
