Three of us headed to Angle Inn Lodge on Oak Island from Saturday, 3.14 to Monday, 3.16. We brought sleds, portables and all the goods. We fished both US and Canada and hit a number of fishing spots…all suggested by our hosts.
We were a little worried about the bite…since the -30 degree post-snow-storm days earlier in the week. But, the folks at Angle Inn Lodge put us on them. We landed over 100 walleye-sauger each day. The bite was very consistent all day long and the weather was amazing. We sat open on the ice all day and never used a heater. Winds were light and the sunshine was as bright as the fishing.
Best colors were chartreuse and orange (perch-type colors), hammered gold and glow-jigs with a bit of orange. We used dead minnows and tried some gulp baits. Both worked. Several huge ‘pout spun through the holes, but it was mainly numbers of walleye and a few perch.
Largest fish was 24″ and many, many fish in the 16-18″ range.
Fun times had by all.
Return trips already planned.
Will post pictures if the camera-man in the group sends them to me.
