Looking at possibly heading up there the weekend of Feb.14 with the gal, I know lucky me. I have never been up on the hard water and honestly have only fished the rainy in the spring. Where does a guy begin to find what we’re looking for? Thanks in advance..

I to go up there the weekend of the 14th don’t ask me how but the misses was in good spirits the day I mentioned it to her. I go out of bayveiw lodge and the fishing was great last year. went just north of the island about 7 miles on to the lake. If you are interested i have a LOW chip I have but never use. Don’t have the equipment to go out on my own. Shoot me an offer and I will ponder. If not good luck and maybe we will see ya out there
January 27, 2009 at 1:10 am #741686From the Baudette area there are two basic choices. Go out a ways to the 32′ depth and fish for primarily sauger, those spots can be up to 12 miles out. Or stay a little shallow and fish walleyes. The resorts that go out far use bombadiers and tracked snow vehicles over unplowed trails. There are only a few plowed roads very far out into the lake. Adrians Resort has a plowed road. Or you can go off Pine Island in 12-20 fow and hope for some walleyes. One advantage of the sauger areas is that it is an all day bite, the walleye bite off Pine Island is a twice a day affair, at dawn & dusk. There is not much of a night bite on this lake. So many resorts have you sleep in a cabin or room on shore. Off couse with a lake as huge as this there are many more possibilities.
January 27, 2009 at 1:49 am #741711We’re headed up the first week in March and will be staying at Wheelers Point at the mouth of the Rainy River. I personally have not been out with them before but a friend I am going with has done well with them on several occasions in the past. We’ll be staying on shore three nights and fishing in their houses for two full days. They seem to be quite reasonably priced.
January 27, 2009 at 2:03 am #741720There are alot of resorts to choose from up there,& they are all hurting for your business.I know Schusters has a 2 for 1 that week,& Wigwam has $100 off.I have been using up north sleeper the last few years.
Good luck & let us know how it goes.January 27, 2009 at 2:56 am #741760If you are bringing your own house there are a couple hotels in town like the AmericInn that do the job. I yoiu are looking to use a resort house, I would not suggest a sleeper for the misses. The are a bit on the rustic side, and being able to be in a comfy bed in a cabin is much nicer at night. I always stay at Wigwam with no complaints. Good food and good entertainment right on site. The only other suggestion would be Zipple Bay if they have a log cabin available. They are incredibly nice.
January 27, 2009 at 4:50 am #741809I have been up to Sportsmans Lodge a few time and I bieleve they have a package where the wife can get a massage one of they days instead of heading out on the ice. Give them a call.
