Walleyebrat and I along with a friend and his son spent a couple days up on Lake of the Woods. With Heidi 7.5 months pregnant and my buddies kid being pretty young we opted to keep it low key and rent a drive yourself out house. There was 20 plus inches of ice where we were.
We had a great time but fishing was pretty tough. Fri we were in 30′ of water and only managed 30-35 fish for the 4 of us keeping just 10 for a fish fry that night. The dead sticks worked just as good as the jiggin rods maybe even a little better. Plain hooks or small glow jigs was the ticket on the bobber rods. Jiggin we tried a number of different presentations and nothing seemed to work consistantly.
Sat we asked for a different house for some new scenery and were moved in to a different house in 28′ of water. We headed out with renewed vigor just to have our hopes crushed by lack of fish, we caught MAYBE 15 fish all day and kept 7. I would bet all day I marked less than 10 fish catching only 2 of those.
All in all we had a good time and made the most of what we had for options to make a trip work.
Talked to a guy that caught a ton of short fish in 24′ Sat afternoon, he said it was so fast he could only run 1 rod but they were all 8-12″ fish.
We had fun and that is the main thing!!!
