I’m looking at heading up to Lake of the Woods August 19th through the 25th. I’m looking to give myself a little graduation present seeing as how I’ll be graduating at that time. I’m looking right now at this place called Cyrus Resort, yet I don’t know a whole lot about the place. Could anyone give me any recommendations as to a good place to stay. I’m not looking for a charter or anything, just a nice place to stay. We’re trying to shoot for something around 600 to 700 dollars. Like I said I’m just graudating so I’m saving my pennies up right now for a fun trip. Any suggestions would be more than appreciated.

The only place I’ve stayed on LOTW’s is Wigwam Resort. They have everything from restaurant to bar and the gals up there are looking to make your stay a pleasant one.

We had 50+ folks from IDA up there sturgeon fishing this spring. Fishing was…GREAT and they took care of us!

Ask for Tara the one with the smile, Judy the one with the giggle or Dani…the one with the smile and giggles.

If you’re looking to get up to the NW Angle portion of the lake (my favorite!) check out Bay Store Camp ( http://www.baystorecamp.com ). Great people, great accomodations, great fishing (walleyes, muskies, etc.), in more of a wilderness experience than the big lake offers.

In August what would be the best part of the lake to fish for Walleyes and pike? That would probably help in selecting what part of the lake we want to stay on. Thanks for the info guys.

It doesn’t matter the fishing in August is fantastic all over.

Wigwam may be my choice when I venture up that way again… Sorry just had to go down that road…

If you are looking for walleyes, August is the time to hit the big basin, so staying at Wigwam would be a great choice! That is the time of the year that the big walleyes are caught out on the reefs!!!

If that doesn’t work, BayStore Camp that John23 mentioned has gotten great reviews. Oak Is is an AWESOME place to stay. You have HUGE trohpy walleyes growing within 5 miles of that island! I have never stayed at Baystore Camp, but have heard many good things about it. I’ve stayed at the old Bonnie Bray resort on Oak, which is now part of Sportsman’s Lodge. That place is VERY nice and clean and offers everything at a great price too. I also believe that the Sportsman’s Lodge will shuttle you up there via their big rigs so you don’t have to mess with crossing the borders/customs.

For walleyes, all you need is a handfull of bottom boucners, spinner rigs, and a LOT of crawlers! (Cranks on the bottom bouncers work good too!)

I’ve stayed at many over the years, but only use Wigwam for the last 3. I need my wife to figure out her schedule so we can line up our trip as well. I’m looking forward to using the new down riggers!

I just got home last night after spending a few days at Bay Store Camp. I love it up there . I was with friends who have cabins within eyesight of Walsh’s and we still stay there. Frank and Laura are great people. Access to Canadian waters is a plus too.
