Went for a day trip on Monday 04-06-07 Got on the water about 9:00 am, it was about 14 degrees when we launched and Birchdale was in good shape, a little freezing from the water coming off the trailers. The bite was pretty slow until noon, we were seeing people catch fish but not fast and furious. It was calm and sunny and about noon the bite picked up considerably for us. Between noon and 6:00 we (2 guys) probably caught 60 walleyes, it was great. Jigs and rainbows caught most of the fish, gold or white/glow jigs outperformed other colors. We did troll cranks for a little while caught at least one on every pass. Biggest fish trolling was 26, jigging 24, but most fish were 15-18 inches and nice and healthy. The deeper holes 12-15 feet at the drop off really produced well for us. We caught most of our fish downriver from the big blue silo. Wish I had time to go one more time before it closes but not going to happen. The water was real clean with not much current so hopefully fishing will remain good through the close of the season on Saturday. Good Luck to anyone who is going up this week.
