Headed up nort with the boat in tow for a little open water fishing. The ice was not cooperating in clearing the way for us further down stream, so we headed for the I-Falls area. Got an early start Monday and was the weather for the nations ice box was warm and foggy. Beautiful weather for our first outing. We targeted an area with a steep drop from shore to 12 feet of water. Managed several walleyes, one 6 pounder, and a couple pike. Staying as vertical as possible and working the current seam with a jig and shiner produced the best on this day.
Tues was a bit more difficult. Wind, colder temps, and clear skies made the bite alot tougher. Managed a few walleyes again vertical jigging with the lightest jig tipped with a shiner or rainbow worked best.
Wed was alot colder with wind and rain. On the commute to the river I was thinking it would be only a couple hours before one of us three guys had hypothermia set in This was not the case luckily and we had the best day of the three. The key today was slowly working into the current dragging a jig/purple ringworm with white tail also tipped with a shiner or rainbow. We caught the eyes consistently all day long. We also pulled three ways and raps after the trolling battery went dead (First time in my life I forgot to plug the charger in the night before). Managed one eye on the three way and crank before using the yammy T8 to drag jigs again (man I am glad I jumped on the T8 bandwaggon)Picture is on Wed night of 6 keepers and the end to a great trip!
