Hey guys I am making my first LOTW icefishing trip next week the 20th-23rd. There are 8 of us and we are staying at site sponsor Wigwam resort. Wondering if any other IDA members are going to be up there and how far we will need to go to find fish. We will be using portables.

    Excited,
    EJ

Steve DeZurik and I will be there starting on the 19th. Scott Steil will arrive later in the week. We plan to hit the river first if we can get a boat across the ice shelves to open water. Then later in the week we’re going to film a couple ice shows out on the big lake.

The Walleye Brat and I are going to be up there the 22-25th. We are staying at Lake Road lodge and sledding out with portables.

I hope to get the chance to meet you guys. Are you staying at Wigwam? A buddy (Dave Van Orden) who is going up with me fished Mississippi with Steve late last fall, he was wondering if Steve is going to have that same River boat with.

The weather should be good and the reports I hear are that the fishing is getting pretty good past Pine Island.

    Brian,

Brian do you know what they have for bait at Wigwam? I assume we can get fatheads and shiners there. Any Pike bait there?

    Thanks,

That late in the year, I would bring your own bait. Bait is cheap and not having any is a real bummer

Last I checked…they didn’t carry bait. There is two bait shops just before Wigwam…can’t recall the names though.

Like Scott said…going that far…I would have a back up bait plan.

    EJ,

Actually next week James and I will be bringing up his G3 boat. THe forecast for getting on the river is still day to day starting next week for us. We will most like be waiting until possibly Wed next week to get on the river? We will see what mother nature has in store for us from now until then. The river ice up there is deteriorating quickly, but still a little ways from the Birchdale ramp. Changes continue to progress daily, so we are watching the weather and the local reports up there for the latest up to date news. When the river opens up past Birchdale…..were outta here!!

Just as an FYI…..There is a nice bait shop in Walker that I use to stop at on the way up to Rainy a few years back called Walker Bait. I called him ahead of time and told him that I might be rolling through his area after his business times and he said that to call him before I got there and he would make a special trip to his bait shop to meet you there…..Now thats support.

Good luck and we will see you up there!

Log Cabin Bait and Adriens are good bets for bait and are less than 1/4 mile from the Wigwam.

Steve or others, does anyone know of a good map online of the rainy with campsites and public access points? I’m trying to find one but i’m not having much luck.

    Thanks Bobberal,

I called Log Cabin and he said he would have what I need next Tuesday. For those interested, he also has a beer store.

This is from the Clementson Resort website

Keep an eye on their website as they are real good at giving daily updates on the river with pictures from here on until April 14th.
We will be up there Mar 26-29.

It was a tough descision to delay another week but there’s no doubt we made the right call. I’m completely pumped to get to spend 3 days on the ice and 3 days stomping big eyes up in the river.
