I had the pleasure of spending another long weekend on LOTW with my Uncle, brother, and Dad. This was the maiden voyage of my Uncle’s 2007 Warrior 2090 XST. There was plenty of room for the 4 of us and the 175hp Mercury had no problem hitting 40+ mph. Sweet Rig.

On Friday we were met with partly cloudy skies and a 5-10+ mph South wind. We started 3 miles out from Rocky Point and ended up trolling over all the reefs as well. We never found any good schools of fish on the graph, but we did catch a few small fish on the planer boards.

On Saturday we awoke to a 10-15 mph winds out of the SE. We decided to trailer over and launch at Zippel Bay. The water is wayyy low in the bay and it took us nearly a half hour to get to the lake. We fished infront of Zippel in 28 fow from 9am-5pm. We ended up catching 20 walleyes with 13 keepers. We could not establish anything on the downriggers. We changed lures, depths, line lengths, and nothing. All but two of the fish came on Reef Runners and Taildancers pulled behind planer boards. The strong winds made it tough to detect fish on the boards, so we constantly had to check the lines.

On Sunday there was a strong wind out of the West, so we trailered over to the South shore. This time we decided to try launching at Morris Point, and it was more of the same. The shallow water meant the motor trimmed way up and a half hour to the lake. We mainly focused on an area about a half mile NE of Graceton Reef. The fish were there, but they were not willing to cooperate. Again the downriggers were outproduced. A silver/black taildancer on one downrigger did produce 3 solid 17 inchers. The perch deep taildancer outperformed the rest again. It produced 6 fish, with one being a perfect 19.25 inch fish. We marked the most fish closer to the reef in 24 fow, but caught the most in 27 feet. We caught the most fish when the lures were running at 18-22 feet. Interestingly we marked a lot of fish 10-15 feet below the surface, but I ran Reef Runners and taildancer on boards at that depth and never caught anything.

Another awesome trip to LOTW. It was fun to drive around the area and see all the deer, geese, and eagles. While in Zippel Bay, we saw a ton of ducks too. The fall colors are going strong up there also. I know there are some tournaments coming up, so good luck to everyone.
