Just got back from our madian voyage to the Rainy River durining the spring run……All I can say is “WOW”, what an experince .

We didn’t catch a whole ton of fish during our 2 day venture, but we did get at least a couple hawgs. I think we hit it right on the tail end of the good bite……it sounded like last Tues-Wed were phenominal, Thurs was still good, then by Friday (when we got there) things had cooled down……and by Sunday morning when we left the water had dirty quite a bit and nobody was cathing fish .

Anyway…..I’ll throw up a couple pics

Here’s the first fish of the trip….my line wasn’t in the water for more the 3 mins when this 24″er smacked it

The majority of our fish (inlcuding all of the bigger ones) came on 5″ white K-grubs tipped with a fathead. Although we did get a few on ringies, wildeye jiggin shad, and just a plain jig and minnow.

The only bad part of the trip was when we got tagged for fishing “Ontario waters without the appropraite license” Saturday afternoon…….I wasn’t paying attention and let us drift over a little to far across the imaginary center line……the Candadian CO’s were on us from no where and were pretty much writting the tickets before they even pulled up beside us ……appartently they’ve never heard of a warning before …….$155 (Canadian) a piece, and I paid for half my buddies since I was the one not paying attention. Sure made our cheap little fishin trip a lot more expensive .

Was also kinda bummed we didn’t tie into any sturgeon

But fun was still had……learned a lot and can’t wait for next year

Jake Nice Fish Man! You must have been fishing downriver from us Saturday as we could see the rain falling from upriver, where we stayed dry. Anything white seemed best overall this weekend especially the grubs which Ill have with me next time. My friends dad hooked into atleast 6 sturgeon this weekend the biggest 62″ on 4 lb line. It really pissed him off after a while he couldn’t catch a walleye, every bite was a sturgeon. Were you in a smaller aluminum camo boat? I think I saw you get checked by the canadian authorites. tough luck it’s easy to forget where you are in relation to the border when fishing is that good.

Yah guys. Was up on Tuesday afternoon to Thursday night. All I have to say is unbelievable. Myself and fishing partner caught somewhere around 400 walleyes in 2 1/2 days of fishing. On Thursday, we caught 3 29ers, 2- 28″, and a whole ton between 23-27″. It was a blast. Just used 1/4 oz. jigs tipped with a white twistertail, no bait. Used bait the first half day and went through $30 in minnows so said forget that and fished plastics. We fished above and below Frontier and down to the church. First time trip and will now be planning every year.

I will be posting pics later this morning of our trip!
Friday was the best day, between my dad and me we boated 108 fish(we actually use a counter)! Saturday we had 63 and yesterday we fished til 1pm and had 8 fish!
The Little fork river has begun to let loose and the chocolate milk has begun to flow! Fishing will die down until and if the river clears up!
Interesting note on Saturday the local sherriff had closed down the access because too many vehicles were already in! A guess as too how many, well over 300!

That’s another thing I forgot to mention……the boat landing situation was unbelievable. Friday we were able to get in at Frontier over the shore ice with little to no wait…..well, they cleared the landing that afternoon, and when we arrived Saturday morning the line of boats waiting to launch had to be 2 miles long!!! It would have taken hours to get a boat in and out of there……we decided to head down to Vidas and drop in over the ice there….there wasn’t even a line there. It’s amazing how slick it is dropping a little boat off on the landing and pushing it in the water can be .

We saw two big boats bust their axles trying to get in at Vidas while we were there. For some reason they thought they could just drop their tires off the edge…….BAD IDEA

I’m definatly convinced little boats are the way to go up there. It’s not like you have to run very far to start fishing .

Not sure what these guys were up too?

We watched them drive their boat right up onto the ice flow, get out, and start fishing …….maybe a few to many

We did however see them catch a fish off of it

He must Have lost a bet because I remember seeing him and thinking it was just a tad bit to cold to be catching a tan.
The river wasn’t the only thing flowing last weekend one group I saw left 3 anglers on an ice chunk for a picture and I’m pretty sure you can’t get see sick on the river.
