Just got back today from my 1st trip 2 the river today. What a Fishery! Fished Thur. Fri. Sat. we concentrated on the areas down river from Birchdale past Frontier and there were fish every where. Water Quality was mostly good thursday and friday with those being our best days. The river started to muddy up Friday evening and coninued to get worse Sat. We had many fish between 25″ and 27″ with 27″ers proving to be our best. All we did this weekend was jig minnows and or plastics which was very effective. whites oranges greens and gold were good. Did not even bring cranks as I was in a buddies boat and he lives and dies by jigging. The few people pulling cranks were doing well also, and cranks may be a better option when faced with the muddy conditions. Big and Little fork Rivers have not broken loose yet but wiil be soon with this warm weather and will really muddy things up. From what I hear this makes fishing very tough and river navigation dangerous. Hopefully it will clear itself out by next weekend/week as I hope to make another trip then. If not I will defininitely be back next year! How did everyone else do?

    lindy,
Very fine looking fish, good report and pics, hope you get back up there and report more. I think some water color would make conditions better for fishing. It sure does on pool 4. just not so when it is high water volume and very muddy like now. good luck.. Jack…

Well Jack I think the slower fishing on Sat. had more to do with boat traffic than muddying water. In fact we noticed that the river was starting to muddy quite a bit fri. afternoon below frontier, but Friday evening was our best time on the water atleast for quality fish anyway. Reports from Sunday have been very bad and I suspect with the warm weather it’s due to increased run off and debris etc. I’m planning another trip for early next week hopefully she clears herself out a little.
