Yup…my rainey river trip I had planned for march 31 thru April 4 isn’t gonna happen. Looking at the extended forecast..yea I know thats a long way out but my instincts say drop back to plan “B”…which is lake of the woods via Ballards resort with a much bigger group of guys a week after opener……. really was excited about the prespawn bite….but the way mother nature is behaving this year..those pigs might still be in the river then..

Anybody else getting cold feet..or is it just me

Yeah, I have been thinking about sturgeon and wondering when/if the river will open to Four Mile by the end on April.

It’s always been close for the SE.

Couple of years 4 Mile Bay opened up on the Thursday before. It’s always been open by the 3rd week of April for the last 6 years anyway.

Not saying they can’t get a foot of snow after it opens though.

My first trip is planned for March 30 to April 2. I’m going to hang in till the bitter end. How can Mother Nature throw us curve balls two years in a row?? It’s been a hell of a winter…..

Not LOTW/RR but last year we booked out trip to Kabetogama arriving the day of the latest ice out date thinking its pretty safe that we’d be plenty ice free. . . they were only 2-3 days from a new record. Re-booked for the same week this spring, no way it happens two years in a row. . . I hope you are wrong too.

Fortunately at least that trip isn’t as time sensitive as a Rainy River run, seems like an awesome trip but pretty sure I’m in the same boat (not flexible enough in work/family schedule) for that to be an option till many moons from now.
